“ARRESTING free flow of the Ganga by building dams is part of a larger conspiracy, which aims at destroying our centuries old heritage. The yatra being launched by Uma Bharati will prove to be a milestone in the journey of protecting the holy river and exposing many conspiracies, which have systematically been hatched to kill the holy river,” said veteran VHP leader Shri Ashok Singhal while handing over the Yatra Flag to Sushri Uma Bharati in New Delhi on September 11.
Shri Singhal further said the arrest of Ganga in tunnels has killed her to the extent that she is fast losing her miraculous power of killing the bacteria. He said the saints are very agitated over it and they are going to take strong action in the coming Prayag Kumbha. He said the Government of India declared the Ganga as National River but not even a single meeting of the National Ganga River Basin Authority was held and majority of the members of the Authority have resigned over this intentional inaction on the part of the Authority, which is headed by none else than the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Receiving the Flag from Shri Singhal, Sushri Uma Bharati said she want that the Ganga should prove beneficial for the coming generations of Bharat as she granted salvation to the ancestors of King Sagar. She said the Ganga can be said pure the day her water in Kanpur becomes drinkable. She hoped that her Yatra would exhort both the common men and the policymakers of the country for the protection of the holy river.
Talking about the Yatra she it would begin from Ganga Sagar on September 20 and passing through different parts of the country would culminate in Gangotri. She said everyday the Yatra would begin with Ganga Arti and culminate with public meeting. (FOC)
