NSS, SNDP, BJP attack UDF minorityism

S Chandrasekhar

The Oommen Chandy led UDF is surviving, thanks to the support of the 22-member Muslim League. When protests are mounting throughout the state over the UDF regime move to grant aided status to 35 madarasa-linked schools at an annual burden of Rs. 625 crores, the government is making all out efforts to scuttle the probe into the ice-cream parlour sex-scandal case involving Muslim League Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty.

In the later nineties, a sex-scandal around an ice-cream parlour in Kozhikode rocked Kerala. Several CPM leaders including a former Mayor and P.K. Kunhalikutty were involved. Ex-Naxalite and woman activist Ajitha and Opposition Leader V.S. Atchudanandan followed up the case. Since the victims Rajeena, Rejula, Roslin and Bindu turned hostile and retracted on their earlier accusations, the case was dismissed in 2006.

Now in a bid to help Kunhalikutty and scuttle future probe, the UDF regime buried the SIT report which clearly states huge money was given to the victims to turn hostile. V.S. Atchudanandan had to go to Supreme Court to order Kerala Government to issue him a copy of the SIT report. V.S. and Ajitha are bent on pursuing the case. It is to be noted that when Kunhalikutty had to resign, a few years back, following the sex-scandal, his supporters tore off the National Flag at the Karippur Airport in Malabar and hoisted the Muslim League flag there.

PK Basheer, the Muslim League MLA from Ernad in Malappuram, who made a hate-speech which led to the murder of two brothers, is still at large, despite him being an accused, in the FIR.

The SNDP general secretary Vellapalli Natesan hit out at the Congress saying even the demands of Muslims and Christians on bit papers are fulfilled, the just demands of Hindus are thrown into dustbins, despite massive agitations. “The 55 per cent Hindus are discriminated in the minority dominated administration. A Hindu League consisting of all Hindus from Vanavasis to Brahmins is the only answer to counter Muslim League arrogance,” he thundered.

NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair has charged that the Congress leadership is behind minority appeasement. “Oommen Chandy is following the British policy of divide and rule by appeasing minorities. Reservation issue is blown out of proportion to divide Hindus,” he charged.

Inaugurating a BJP hunger strike in front of Government Secretariat against denial of justice to Hindus, BJP leader O Rajagopal said, “AK Antony’s recent observation that ‘for Communal Harmony, Communal Justice’ should be ensured,” should be addressed to Oommen Chandy, since he was sabotaging communal harmony by supporting only Muslims. Maximum demands of Hindus are dumped.
