Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan director, Sanskrit Scholar, Padma Shri Dr Mathoor Krishnamurti is no more

 Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan director, Sanskrit Scholar, Padma Shri Dr Mathoor Krishnamurti is no more

 On the auspicious day of world renowned Mysore Dussera and Vijyadashami,  people of Karnataka woke up to a sad news of noted Sanskrit scholar, author of many books, Cultural ambassador, executive director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Bangalore Kendra, Dr  Mathoor Krishnamurthy breathed his last on October 6. He was 82 years old. He was suffering from respiratory problems and being treated in a private hospital in Bangalore. He served  Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) with utmost dedication and established the London Kendra of Bhavan.  He was the icon of cultural activities of Bhavan and highly active in propagating Indian thoughts and values through television programme in India and also at BBC.He was the winner of many awards including  Rajyotsava award, Gandhi Foundation Award  and Sangeet Natak Academy award.

Dr K M Munshi who  founded BVB in 1938,  had its objective of promoting and propagating Indian values and culture spanning literature, Music, Dance and other fine arts. With the motivation of personalities like Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, Sri S Nijalingappa, the Chief Minister, and Dr R.R Diwakar, Editor of the popular Kannada daily Samyuktha Karnataka, Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastry  laid the foundation stone for the Bangalore Centre of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on 31.1.1965 and Bhavan’s building was inaugurated by President V.V. Giri on November 16,1966.

Mathoor Krishnamurti joined BVB in 1969 as a registrar of Bangalore Kendra and till his last breath he went on serving BVB by leading from front.
