Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption begins

Amid boisterous cheers of the huge crowd that turned in despite enervating heat, the Jan Chetna Yatra of senior BJP leader Shri LK Advani against corruption was flagged off by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from Chhapra in Saran district of Bihar on October 11.

With the message of clean politics and good governance the Yatra will traverse through 23 states and 4 Union Territories in 38 days. It will travel 7600 km distance in 100 districts. It is the sixth Yatra being conducted by Shri Advani.

Accompanied by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely, party general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad and his daughter Pratibha Advani, Shri LK Advani seemed visibly impressed with the ovation he received as he wheeled past the crowd in the swanky bus (rath) which has an inbuilt system to lift him to the roof of the bus. Standing on the lift, he kept waiving even as the bus moved past the lustily cheering crowd.

It is to be noted that Shri Advani’s first Somnath to Ayodhya Yatra was stopped 21 years ago in Bihar itself by the then Chief Minister and now his sixth Yatra was flagged off by the Bihar Chief Minister itself. Praising Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar Shri Advani said he brought about a sea change in Bihar, displaying courage and perspective needed for running the government very efficiently.

Shri Nitish Kumar said it was Jaiprakash Narayan who had given a clarion call to launch an agitation against corruption in 1974 from Bihar and now when Advaniji decided to embark on Jan Chetan Yatra from Bihar for creating awareness against corruption, he chose to welcome him by flagging of his rath.

Earlier, Shri Advani reached Sitab Diara, 20 km from Chhapra, by a chopper. He, along with Shri Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley visited the ancestral home of Jayaprakash Narayan and garlanded his statue.      (FOC)
