THE jam-packed hall of a local educational institution in Kanpur on August 28 responded in unison to a clarion call by Shri Balbir Punj, Member of Rajya Sabha and incharge of BJP’s Central Intellectual Cell, to fight against proposed ‘Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, 2011’. The Bill has been drafted by National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Smt Sonia Gandhi.

Addressing the intellectuals at the BNSD Shiksha Niketan, Shri Punj said the proposed Bill was a danger to the federal character of the country and has been drafted by those who have no faith in its pluralistic culture.

The programme was organised by Kanpur unit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Dr Ishwar Chand Gupta, Kshetra Sanghachalak, presided over the function. In the beginning, Shri Vasudev Vasvani initiated the discussion on the issue.

The programme evoked a massive response from the citizens who turned up in such a large number that it upset the seating plans of the organisers. When the hall with a seating capacity of 800 persons was full to its capacity, the organisers had to hurriedly keep 300 odd chairs outside the hall. An extra loudspeaker had also to be installed in a hurry.

Detailing the provisions of the proposed Bill clause by clause, Shri Punj said the proposed legislation was against the principle of natural justice. This communal Bill and the NAC would further widen the communal gap in the country, he added. Tracing the history of communalism in the country, Shri Punj said the so-called secularists have been working overtime to strengthen the fundamentalist section of the Muslim society.

Shri Punj alleged that this communal approach of the self-styled secularists was responsible for the creation of Pakistan. The proposed Bill would surely pave the way for another Partition of the country. When he called upon the people to rise against this black Bill in one voice the entire hall responded with Bharatmata ki jai, revealing their resolve to carry on the struggle on this issue. Coming down heavily on the NAC, Shri Punj said it has been created to make Sonia Gandhi a super Prime Minister and also to malign the image of Hindus.

Earlier, in the morning Shri Punj addressed another meeting in Jhansi organised by local RSS unit where too the audience, which turned up in large number, resolved to fight against the proposed Bill.
