AKHIL Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in association with Archery Association of India organised a national archery competition at the campus of CBR Institute of International Sports and Educational Studies in Vijyawada recently. The competition was inaugurated by Shri CBR Prasad, a veteran Olympic Athlete and joint general secretary of Kalyan Ashram Shri Kripa Prasad Singh by offering flowers to the portrait of ancient archer Sri Ram.
Shri Uma Maheshwar, a Telugu Desham Party leader and MLA, addressed the function as chief guest. Shri Somayajulu, senior leader of Kalyan Ashram, sports incharge of Kalyan Ashram Shri Shaktipad Thakur, RSS Prant Sahsanghahcalak Shri Bhupati Raju, Smt. Padmavati also graced the occasion. A total of 273 archers along with 52 coaches from 22 states of Bharat and Nepal participated in the competition. Kalyan Ashram runs 801 daily and 1,105 weekly sports centres under the banner of Eklavya Khelkud Prakalp in remote areas of the country. About 10,600 youth practice kabaddi, kho-kho, archery and marathon also in these centres. Apart from the sports activities, the Kalyan Ashram runs 14,445 service projects across the country. 1,405 full time workers have dedicated their life to the development of Vanvasis.
