“IT is witnessed that the so-called poor, illiterate, destitute and orthodox are not much involved in female feticide but the so-called well-educated, well-off and upper-class people are deeply involved in this heinous crime,” said Akhil Bharatiya Mahila Samanvya Pramukh Gitatai Gunde. She was speaking at a seminar organised at Mahrishi Dayanand University Campus in Rohtak on September 18. The seminar was organised jointly by Drishti and the Sociology Department of the University. Smt Geeta Bhukal, Education and Social Welfare Minister of Haryana Government, Shri RP Hooda, Vice chancellor of MDU, Smt Anjali Deshande, secretary of Drishti and Prof. Anjali Radkar, research coordinator of Drishti, were also present at the seminar.
“In spite of having many anti-dowry laws, the curse of dowry is increasing day by day in the society. We have to work for the fruitfulness of these laws,” said Geetatai. Smt Anjali Deshpande spoke about the activities of Drishti. Smt Anjali Radkar provided detail of the research conducted by her in five districts of Haryana-Mahendragarh, Sirsa, Karnal, Sonipat and Mewat. She also explained the reasons for skewed sex ratio, need for the study, objectives, findings and recommendations. Smt Geeta Bhukal praised the activities of Drishti for the upliftment of women in Haryana. Shri RP Hooda also admired Drishti. Smt Rajbala Singh, Haryana coordinator of Drishti, proposed the vote of thanks.
