Birth centenary of Saraswatitai Apte celebrated

Vandaniya Saraswatitai Apte, the second Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, was paid rich tribute in New Delhi on March 11 with one lakh eight thousand ahutis in yajnas organised at 30 different places. With this the birth centenary celebration of Tai Apte concluded. Akhil Bharatiya Karyavahika of the Samiti guided the Sevikas at the function organised in Yamuna Vihar.

The birth centenary celebration was held from March 2009 to March 2010. During the centenary year, many functions were organised across the country. A grand Sammelan was organised at Punjabi Bagh Stadium last year in which more than 7000 women had participated. More than 2000 uniformed Sevikas presented various activities at the function. Pramukh Sanchalika of the Samiti Smt Pramilatai Medhe addressed the gathering.

The birth centenary year celebration had begun from Arjel, the birth place of Tai Apte in Maharashtra from March 2009. The Sevikas performed Suryanamaskars in 100 villages of Maharashtra. Similarly, a three-day Women conference was organised in Pune from December 25 to 27, 2009. The Sevikas in Haryana recited Gayatri Mantra continuously for 100 hours. Whereas in Madhya Pradesh, Durga Chalisa was recited for continuously 12 hours for five days. More than 1000 Sevikas participated in the event. Women conferences were also organised in Ahmedabad of Gujarat, Katani, Indore of Madhya Pradesh and Raipur of Chhattisgarh. The convention of the eastern region was organised in Kolkata from December 25 to 27. A total of 587 Sevikas attended the convention.

Many functions were organised in southern states also. A function was organised in Vijaynagar (Karnataka) from January 9-10 this year. Whereas, meetings of 649 women teachers representing 188 schools was organised at seven places of Pashchim Andhra Pradesh.
