VHP spokesperson Dr Surendra Jain said that MF Husain should face the Indian judiciary instead of absconding. In a statement issued in New Delhi on March 5 he said Husain is not absconding out of the fear of Hindu organisations, he is afraid of the results of the court cases registered against him due to his misdeeds. “If anyone is trying to evade the judicial process, the only word for him by the legal system is “absconder”. That is why he is not at all impressed by the campaigns launched to bring him back. While making nude pictures of Mother India and Hindu Gods-Goddesses, he must be having in his mind that he has painted his mother, Bibi Fatima, and Mother Teressa in a very pious and descent manner. His blind followers may ignore his double standard, but he might have remembered his wilfully committed sins.
He said VHP is not in favour of insulting faiths of any religion. Therefore, we opposed a painter in Vadodra, who painted Jesus in a very indecent and vulgar manner. But double standards of secular class are exposed in the matters of Taslima Nasreen and the Swedish journalists. If the lives and properties of innocent Hindus are attacked by violent mobs in Punjab, Karnataka and other parts of India due to publication of indecent pictures of Jesus, Mohd or publication of a forged article in the name of Taslima, the secular family jumps forward as protector of faith but never condemns brutal and meaningless violence against Hindus.
Dr Jain asked these “champions” of secularism that they should shun double standards. Instead of appealing the Government of India, they should appeal MF Husain to apologise for his sins and come to India and face the legal cases boldly. It should be made clear that Qutar has awarded its nationality to Husain as an award to insult Hindu Dharam, not as a respect to freedom of expression. If they have any respect for such rights they should have awarded their nationality to Taslima Nasreen and Salman Rushdy also, he said
