Founder of Sahyadri Adivasi Bahuvidh Sewa Sangh Shri Navasu Valvi was honoured with Dr Hedgewar Sewa Puraskar for the year 2009. The Puraskar, presented every year by Dr Hedgewar Sewa Nidhi, consists of Rs one lakh, a citation and a memento. It was presented at a function held at Acharya Atrey Auditorium in Kalyan on June 21. Noted architect of Kalyan Shri Dilip Dalvi presided over the function. Leading pediatrician Dr Ramdas Marad was the chief guest. Shri Aniruddha Deshpande, Principal of BMCC College, Pune, was the chief speaker.
According to Shri Bapurao Mokashi, president of Dr Hedgewar Sewa Nidhi, the Puraskar was instituted in 1989 and is presented every year to a person who has dedicated his life to the service of the society. Shri Navasu has done a wonderful work for eradication of addiction among Vanvasis, infused a sence of shraddha-jagran among them, and worked for preservation and promotion of forest herbs. He also worked for solving many problems concerning the Vanvasis. This project has successfully brought the people of cities and the rural areas together. All the service activities started there are temple-centric.
Receiving the Puraskar Shri Navasu said he developed confidence to carry out work in the field of social service and got a vision for the welfare of the society due to the samskars instilled by the RSS.
