Bharatiya Janata Party, Arunachal Pradesh, successfully organised BJP'snationwide campaign on ?Stop Sethusamudram Project; Address National Security Concern? and launched rasta roko programmes at Itanagar near state BJP office and at Naharlagun Barapani Bazar in Arunachal Pradesh. The BJP demanded immediate suspension of the project till it is re-designed and re-aligned properly to address safety aspects incorporating detailed scientific, technical, strategic reviews with viable alternative plan by constituting a multi-disciplinary expert team to save our ancient structure. BJP also demanded protection of this sacred ancient monumental heritage site of the nation and necessary measures to declare it one of the worlds ancient monumental heritage.
The canal if dredged in the present format would cause a threat to survival of population in the coastline areas, give free access to the secrets of the nation at different set-ups in the coastal areas from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal with the foreign ships freely flowing and inviting threats from natural disasters to different parts of the country especially the Himalayan regions in the form of earthquake and volcanic eruptions causing damages to lives and properties. Arunachal Pradesh on the larger part of eastern Himalayas might face serious threats too. The state already faced Siang river incidents and there are many lakes reportedly built with several big rivers of the state.
At Naharlagun NH 52 was blocked for three hours by the party workers with large number of vehicles stranded and thousands of local people joined the protest expressing solidarity on the issue of serious threat and concern the national security is faced with today. The party workers also demanded state government of Arunachal Pradesh to monitor and regulate the skytouching market prices of vegetables and other essential commodities and services that are threatening the survival of the common man in the state especially in the twin state capital and Khandu government should evolve suitable measures to contain these issues. State BJP also expressed its strong resentment over the shortage of supply of LPG cylinders in the state. Stating that after the Congress-led UPA government came to power, its gift to aam aadmi is sky rocketing market prices of the essential commodities and services, the BJP workers urged the state government to take up immediate measures and strongly take up the matter with the Centre.
Later the state party leaders led by Shri Wangman Lowangcha and Smt Padeswari Jamoh, state vice-president and Shri Tai Tagak and Dr. Tangor Tapak, state general secretary went to the Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor for his onward recommendation to the government of India on the sentiments and apprehensions of the people of Arunachal Pradesh for reconsideration the above project that has natural disaster implications upon the state which falls under the active seismic zone.
