Delhi'sDeputy Mayor Savinderjit Singh Bajwa passed away in New Delhi on October 21 of head injuries after falling from the terrace of his house following an attack by monkeys. He is survived by his wife and two sons. The 57-year-old Corporator from Anand Vihar ward was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Apollo hospital on October 20 with multiple injuries and his condition deteriorated later leading to his death on October 21 morning. He was cremated at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi the same day with full honour. His son Arjun Bajwa performed the last rites.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Shri L.K. Advani, Deputy leader of BJP in Lok Sabha Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Delhi Chief Minister Smt Sheila Dikshit, Delhi BJP president Dr Harsh Vardhan, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, former DPCC president Shri Rambabu Sharma and scores of BJP leaders paid him tribute. All MCD institutions, except hospitals, remained closed on October 22 as a mark of respect to Bajwa.
Bajwa, a businessman and Delhi BJP vice-president, was reading a newspaper on the terrace and lost his balance in an attempt to escape from an attack by monkeys who had raided his premises from an adjacent temple at around 8 am on October 20. He was elected to the MCD for the first time in April this year.
?Bajwaji was one of the most honest, sincere and dedicated workers of the party who worked selflessly with utmost honesty for the party, society and the nation and particularly for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. His untimely demise and in an unfortunate manner has given an irreparable loss to Delhi BJP and the Sangh Parivar. He will be missed a lot,? said Dr Harsh Vardhan.
Prof. Jagdish Mukhi while paying tribute said Bajwaji was extremely a dedicated and honest leader of the Party. He has been vice president of the party for the last three terms. His death is a major setback for the party and the vacuum is difficult to be filled.
Mayor Arti Mehra said, ?Bajwaji'ssudden and shocking demise is an irreparable loss for the party and to the MCD. He was a very close associate and we would always look to him for guidance on all vital issues. He had a very good understanding of the city'sneeds and problems, though he was relatively new to the MCD.?
Leader of the House Shri Subhash Arya said the late Deputy-Mayor was a sincere and hardworking party worker and the party would find it difficult to replace him. He was a soft-spoken and silent person and had great regard for senior party functionaries. He was a member of the Delhi Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and was a good hockey player in college. In fact, he also competed at the national level in the discus-throw event,? he added. MCD Standing Committee Chairman Shri Vijender Gupta said, ?This is a very sad and unfortunate incident.? Born at Gurdaspur in Punjab, Bajwaji graduated from Shyam Lal College in Delhi. He also served as chairman of Guru Harkishan Public School.
