Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh demands September 17?Vishwakarma Jayanti day?as the National Labour Day in India as this would be a glowing tribute to Sri Vishwakarma the world'sfirst known architect. Sri Vishwakarma is revered among the artisans as the giver of tools and implements for the artisans of various trades.

On this occasion, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Visakhapatnam District unit celebrated Vishwakarma Jayanti by hoisting its flag at all its units and union offices and demanded that the central and state governments should declare Vishwakarma Jayanti i.e. September 17, as the National Labour Day instead of May 1, which has no relevance in the Indian context. It is this day Sri Vishwakarma the lord of tools and implements was born and he was the first architect and designer of various tools of trade and as such BMS demands the government to declare the said day as National Labour Day.

In this context Shri Krushna Chandra Mishra dy. organising secretary, All India BMS, addressed a gathering of the committed BMS members and exhorted to work for the welfare of the workmen and more specifically for the workmen in the un-organised sector who are either not aware or deprived of various social security measures and schemes of the government.

Shri M. Jagdeeswara Rao, state vice president, BMS, AP, also addressed the gathering. Shri K. Bhavani Shankarudu, district president, presided over the meeting and Shri A.V. Sambasiva Rao, state legal cell in-charge, also participated in the said meeting.  By O. Srinivas
City Secretary, BMS, VSP
