Reports Leaders greet Charti Lal Goel on his 80th birthday

SHRI Charti Lal Goel, senior leader of the BJP, entered the 80th year of his life on September 1, 2007. On that occasion, a function was organised to felicitate him. RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri L.K. Advani, BJP President Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Venkaih Naidu, BJP Organising Secretary Shri Ramlal, RSS Delhi Sanghachalak Shri Ramesh Prakash, Chief Minister of Delhi Smt Shiela Dikshit, Union Minister of Science and Technology Shri Kapil Sibal, Shri Kedar Nath Sahani, Delhi BJP President Dr Harshvardhan, Delhi Mayor Smt Arati Mehra, Shri Om Prakash Chautala, Shri Madan Lal Khurana and other political heavy weights, intellectuals, media celebrities and others participated in the function. All the participants at the function, praising his work for the uplift of society and betterment of the common man, wished Shri Charti Lal Goel a very happy and prosperous life.

Shri Charti Lal Goel was born in 1927 in Anandpur Jharoth in Rohtak, Haryana. He did his matriculation with distinction from Shibbamal Hindu High School, Sonepat in 1942.

For college study, he took admission in College of Commerce (presently known as Shri Ram College of Commerce), Delhi. Since he was a bright student, he was granted scholarship during his college days. In 1947, he did his B.Com and in 1951 LL.B.

Shri Charti Lal Goel has been an active swayamsevak of RSS since 1943. In 1952, he became the founding member of Jana Sangh. In 1962, he contested the election for Municipal Corporation of Delhi. In 1967, he again contested the MCD election and won. Thereafter he was entrusted with the responsibility of the president of DESU. During his presidentship, Indraprastha Power Station was established in Delhi. He had been the member of MCD since 1975. He visited Russia, East Germany, West Germany and France as a member of an MCD delegation. When the infamous Emergency was imposed on June 25, 1975, he along with other leaders was detained and sent to the Ambala jail. In the jail, there were also Shri Nanaji Deshmukh, Shri Prakashdutt Bhargava, the then Delhi Karyavah, Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Shri Arun Kumar Jaitley. In 1993, he contested the election to Delhi Assembly. He won the election and was appointed the Speaker of the first Delhi Assembly.

During his long span of political career, he rendered a yeoman'sservice and served the common man of Delhi with great zeal and vigour. He has still been working and combating the evil traditions afflicting the society. Organiser family wishes him a long and successful life.
