Thiruvananthapuram: ?It is a cultural mafia which leads the state of Kerala. The so-called intellectuals in the state are perpetrating a big fraud on Kerala by silently supporting the Islamic terrorists and kowtowing to the Marxists,? said Dr K S Radhakrishnan, noted scholar and Vice Chancellor of the Kaladi Sanskrit University.

Speaking at various seminars held at Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur in connection with the golden jubilee of the formation of the state of Kerala, Dr Radhakrishnan ridiculed the silence of the so-called intelligentsia in the state on the victimization drive unleashed by the CPI(M)-led government against people whom the party considers as persona non grata.

Dr Radhakrishnan, a leading philosopher, was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Sanskrit University by the previous UDF government following the tenure of K N Panikker, a Marxist acolyte. During the Vice-Chancellorship of Panikker, the Sanskrit University reached the nadir point as far as academic excellence was considered. Dr Radhakrishnana, an apolitical person, was trying his best top bring the University back to its heydays as a centre of excellence.

The CPI(M) as part of its drive to establish cultural hegemony over all institutions in the state are trying to smoke out Dr Radhakrishnan and to install some card holding party workers to the post of Vice Chancellor. Since Dr Radhakrishnan is a scholar who will not toe the lines of AKG Centre, the party wants a servile like Panikker to occupy the VC'spost. The CPI(M) led government has already appointed party workers and hangers on as chairmen and presidents of various cultural institutions. Film actor Murali, who contested the 1999 Lok Sabha election as a CPI(M) candidate from Alappuzha, is the new chairman of the Kerala Sangeet Nataka Academi. Kerala Kalamandalam, the pioneer institute established by poet Vallathol Narayana Menon too has been usurped by the CPI(M). The new chairman is none other than ONV Kurup, a film lyricist.

Education Minister M A Baby finds it difficult to replace Jancy James, the vice-chancellor of the Mahatma University at Kottayam since she belongs to the powerful Christain community. Though there are so many allegations of partiality and nepotism against Jancy James, she continues to have the last laugh because of the appeasement policies of the CPI(M).

Dr Radhakrishnan, who endeared himself to the students and the teaching community because of his no-nonsense approach to various issues, is facing a war of a different kind. The SFI, the student wing of the CPI(M) got a candidate file a case of molestation against Dr Radhakrishnan. ?This is the first time in his teaching profession dating back to more than quarter of a century that a charge of this kind has been leveled against Dr Radhakrishnan,? said a lecturer of the Sanskrit University. He pointed out that the Marxists find Dr Radhakrishnan a lame duck since he does not have any caste or communal organizations for lobbying. ?He does not need it because Dr Radhakrishnan is confident of himself,? said the lecturer on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile the Marxists and Islamic terrorists are firing on all six cylinders in their campaign to drive out this respected scholar from the university. ?Islamic terrorists telephone the residence of Dr Radhakrishnan and abuse his wife and daughter on a daily basis. The cultural czars of Kerala do not utter a word to condemn these actions,? said the lecturer of the Sanskrit University.

Speaking to Organiser, Dr Radhakrishnan expressed his shock over the selective victimization unleashed by the media in the state. ?When an allegation was leveled against me, the newspapers or the TV channels could have asked me about my version of the story. I do understand it is the norm in a democratic society,? said Dr Radhakrishnan. He expressed his shock over the media trial being carried out by the newspapers and TV channels in the state.

?Cultural leaders in Kerala follow the ?you scratch my back, I scratch your back policy?,? thundered Dr Radhakrishnan. Interestingly, P. Govinda Pillai, the official intellectual of the CPI(M), who was present in a function addressed by Dr Radhakrishnan, strategically withdrew from the firing line. ?I will not bite the bait thrown at me by Radhakrishnan,? said Pillai, the veteran CPI(M) intellectual.

All educated people in Kerala are of the opinion that the state is witnessing a cultural fascism under the tutelage of the CPI(M). Sahitya Academi, Chalachitra Academi, Folklore Institute, Lalitha Kala Academi etc are all have been jam-packed with CPI(M) workers and associates of the Cultural Minister MA Baby.
