“The teachings of Vedas have great relevance in human civilisation and they teach us about the values of unity in diversity,? said leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri L.K. Advani at the book release function of Pearls of Vedas, authored by Kanayalal Talreja in New Delhi. Shri Advani said the success of Indian democracy lies in the fact: Ekam sat vipra bahuda vadanti. We respect all points of views and try to understand them. He added that tolerance has a major role in Indian democracy as here one respects, understands and debates on opposition'sview.

Pearls of Vedas is a poetic translation in Hindi, English and Urdu and consists of 851 pages in 26 chapters and the author has selected 164 important mantras (verses) from four Vedas. Each mantra is given title in English and Hindi followed by introduction in both the languages. After introduction, the mantra is written in original Sanskrit. Rig Veda consists of 10,589 mantras, Yajur Veda contains 1,975 mantras, Sama Veda contains 1875 mantras and Atharva Veda contains 5,977 mantras. So the author has done a great job in choosing 164 mantras from the total of 20,416 mantras to analyse them, observed various speakers at the occasion.

Presiding over the release function, BJP President Shri Rajnath Singh dwelt on length on spiritualism. He said Vedas and knowledge are synonymous and stressed on the significance and usefulness of the Vedas. He informed that the Vedas contain the solutions to various problems and ills afflicting today'ssociety. BJP Chief remembered that he had adopted Vedic Mathematics while he was Education Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He expressed that the spirit of Vedas would be a more effective weapon in curbing the menace of terrorism and other social evils across the world. ?The Vedas teach us the values of a peaceful co-existence and respecting all human beings irrespective of their caste and creed,? Shri Singh said. He added that Vedas taught the human beings about social harmony and propped the concept of treating the whole world as a family?Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. ?We do not have such teachings anywhere. On the contrary, others treat the whole universe as a bazar instead of a parivar.?

The book, published by Rashtriya Chetana Sangthan, contains the ?pearls? of all Vedas. Prominent among those who were present at the function include former Union Minister Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Shri B.P. Singhal, Shri Kidarnath Sahani, Shri J.P Mathur and others. Dr Mahavir Mimansak, former reader in Sanskrit, Shivaji College, University of Delhi, released the book.  (FOC)
