“Suicides by farmers have taken a serious turn. The Union Agriculture Minister while giving figures in the last Lok Sabha session had said that the number of such deaths has reached to 1,12,000. But without going deep into the actual causes the governments think that by providing subsidies they have done their duty. With corruption everywhere that subsidy also does not reach the right persons. Continuously decreasing fertility of the soil due to unbridled use of chemical fertilizers, increasing financial investments, not getting remunerative prices, continuing slaughter of the cow and its progeny, which are the storehouse of bio-fertilizers as also bio-gas, are some of the reasons that are driving the farmers to commit suicide. But nobody has enough time to go into these details,? said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan. He was delivering the Vijayadashami speech at the historic Reshim Bagh ground in Nagpur on October 2, the 82 foundation day of RSS. Lt. Gen. (retd.) B.T. Pandit was the chief guest on the occasion.
Shri Sudarshan said it is really surprising that the technique of converting plastic waste, which has become a scourge throughout the world today, was invented by a scientist (Prof. Alka Jhadgaokar) in Nagpur, and even after its appreciation by the President of India, it is being ignored perhaps because of bureaucratic wrangling or vested interests of a section of them. However, it is heartening that the Chhattisgarh government has initiated a project of extracting bio-diesel from Jatropha and all the vehicles of the government are successfully using it.
He further said some of the public servants are not above board. Recently, a police station officer and four constables have been indicted by the TADA court for facilitating the transport of RDX and ammunition from Shekhadi in Raigad district to Mumbai for a consideration of a few lakh rupees. ?Certain military secrets have been passed to America by some naval officers and RAW personnel. These are all acts of treason putting the security of the country in peril,? he added.
Addressing the gathering of uniformed swayamsevaks, Shri Sudarshan said every country carries on its activities, espionage or otherwise, keeping its national interest uppermost. Individualistic and consumerist USA is trying to corner as much of the resources of the world as possible for its insatiable consumption. It has created a band of ?Economic hit-men? who are sent to underdeveloped countries to goad them to accept huge amounts of loan for infra-structure development and when they are not able to repay the debt they are made to accept such conditions that ultimately benefit USA and its agencies, and reduce the recipient countries to utter destitution.
?Today, however the USA is the most indebted country in the world and her trade deficit is ever increasing, 70 per cent of the savings of the Asian countries like Bharat, China and Japan are loaned to USA against her securities to the tune of 1500 billion dollars. Even then, in her ambition to keep up the facade of being the most powerful country in the world, she is trying to ensnare Bharat also. On the one hand she promises to help Bharat securing a permanent seat in the UN Security Council and ensure uninterrupted supply of enriched uranium for her atomic power reactors, on the other, in the Bill introduced in the American Congress she stipulates 15 conditions, which, if accepted, will make Bharat lose its independence in the field of nuclear energy. She is also trying to influence our foreign policy decisions,? the RSS Sarsanghachalak added.
He said to bring Pakistan at par with Bharat in the field of conventional and nuclear armaments the US has sent to Pakistan the largest-ever consignment of weapons worth 5.1 billion dollars. To serve her national interest, the USA on the one hand helps Pakistan keep Bharat under control and on the other she flatters Bharat to use her against China, which she fears most. USA knows that only China has got the capacity to target its cities with the help of her long-range missiles carrying nuclear weapons. The most important question is whether Bharat is clear about her national interests. ?In Havana summit of non-aligned nations, our Prime Minister declared Pakistan a victim of terrorism, thereby, bringing the originator and perpetrator of terrorism Pakistan at par with its victim Bharat. And this also when the world has come to appreciate Bharat'sstand about Pakistan as a terrorist nation. This has brought down the credibility of Bharat,? he said.
?The main reason for all this is Macaulay'ssystem of education, which unfortunately is still prevalent even after 68 years of our becoming independent, and due to this, we have come to believe that we are a state-nation in the process of being moulded into one nation. On the contrary, all our national spiritual leaders right from Swami Vivekananda to Aurobindo and political leaders from Lal, Bal, Pal to Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar and Subhas, have held that ours is the ancient-most nation in the world with its lofty philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the whole world is one family) and the principle of ?unity in diversity? in actual practice here. It is only Bharat that has risen above ?individuality?, which is the driving force behind all other nations, principally the western nations and, due to this in their grabbing spree they have endangered the life on this planet including the animal and plant life. Two wars have already been fought and the third is in the offing. It is only Bharat that can provide a sound basis for lasting peace provided she herself becomes invincible to subdue the demonic forces and encourage the divine ones,? he said.
Talking about the birth centenary year of Shri Guruji, he said this year'sVijayadashami has a special significance, as it coincides with the 150th year of the First War of Independence of 1857, the birth centenary of revolutionary leader Sardar Bhagat Singh, 136th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and the Golden Jubilee year of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar'sconversion to Buddhism. He said Shri Guruji had offered respectful homages to these revolutionaries of our independence struggle, from Mahatma Gandhi to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. ?He had personal contacts with both these great personalities who admired the work of RSS for its discipline and total absence of untouchability. It is because of this that when the RSS was banned, by falsely implicating it in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi case, Dr Babasaheb played an important role in getting it lifted. The RSS has dedicated this birth centenary year of Shri Guruji for social harmony. Special meetings of different caste and religious leaders are being organised in different parts of the country with very encouraging results,? he added.
He said the time horizon for a politician is from election to election, for a statesman from decade to decade and for a social reformer from century to century. ?We are witnessing the good fruits of work done by the social reformers of the 20th century. But the politicians have their gaze fixed only on the next elections, which are held after every one or two years now-a-days. All their attention is concentrated in keeping their vote-banks intact, and also to increase it, and in doing so they utter and do such things that have an adverse impact on the unity and integrity of the country, for example, giving a clean-chit to SIMI or pampering Asad Madani for his fatwa in their favour,? he said.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Lt. Gen. (retd.) B.T. Pandit described shastrapoojan as an honour to the armed forces. He said it is an emotional moment for him as Vidarbha is his birthplace. He said his first exposure to RSS was at the Mahal Sangh shakha.
He further said the county'sarmed forces have a proud record and they are ever ready to defeat any external threat. He said the apolitical and professional character of the armed forces must be protected. He said the army must be provided with the best armament and technology. ?Caste, creed, language and religion must not be allowed to make inroads to disturb cohesion and motivation of the brave jawans. Any fissiparous moves by anyone for any reason on political grounds must be nipped in the bud. For God sake, do not blunt our only reliable instrument of state. Common man fully backs jawans?as was done recently during the Kargil War,? he said.
He said having failed in achieving their objectives by military means, our enemies have now changed their strategy and are resorting to proxy war through religious terrorism. ?This threat is more insidious and has greater internal dynamics with external origins. The present government, on account of its vote-bank compulsions, is finding it difficult to handle this menace ruthlessly. Consequently, it is becoming easier for terrorist organisations to find local recruits and logistic support. In this situation, common man has to play an active role?every citizen must treat himself as nation'ssoldier in civil cloths. Only then will the security forces be able to eliminate this menace as was done 20 years back in Punjab where common citizens helped the security forces defeat the Khalistani threat.
In this type of warfare, where the enemy cannot be easily identified, there are no borders to defend, vigilance and intelligence play a vital role. And only the common man can provide this. Hence, we must not allow politicians to compromise national security for short-term political gains to win elections, or else our so-called leaders will continue to thrive on social divisions based on caste, language and religion, he added.
He termed corruption as another big threat as it weakens the very foundation of the society. ?So is the cultural invasion through media and lop-sided priorities in our education system. Add to this the self-styled secularists, who instead of promoting religious freedom to all are trying to eradicate religion itself, minus of course the religion of the minorities. To face such multi-faceted threats we have to be united and strong. Today shastrapoojan is symbolic to convey our resolve and readiness to use all weapons at our command to defend our motherland and our way of life,? he said.
