IF a rose by any other name smells as sweet, why won'ta Congress by another name smell as secular? So Satiricus is not surprised to see that the Nationalist Congress (which is the Congress by another name) maintains its secular credentials as scrupulously as the Congress. This it did the other day by appointing lawyer Majid Memon its National General Secretary. Memon's own credentials are, of course, impeccable?he is as secular as the Congress, and as nationalist as the Nationalist Congress. Both these high qualifications he combines in a single, singular speciality?he defends Islamic terrorists.

When they killed nearly three hundred people of Mumbai in serial bomb blasts, he defended the accused, including the notorious Tiger Memon. Later he also defended all the accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast. Isn'tthat enough legal proof of his secularism? So Satiricus, whose degree in law is legal proof of his communalism, was nonetheless happy to read in the papers that on his appointment, Memon said: ?I want to serve society by working for NCP, which is a democratic and secular party.? See? If there is a ?Servants of Indian Society?, there must also be ?Servants of Indian Terrorists Society?, and Majid Memon now wants to serve that society through the Nationalist congress Party, because it ?is a… secular party?. Wonderful! Now communal Satiricus can look forward to being killed by a secular Congress terrorist.
