Even close associates of Shri Guruji may not be aware of the spiritual heights attained by him. The following chapter is translated from a recently-published Marathi book, Divyasparshi (Written by Dhananjay Deshpande, a High Court Judge; Published by Prasad Prakashan, 1892 Sadashiv Peth, Pune-411 030; Price Rs. 225; pp. 250).
An English book, The Hand That Heals, Dr. Ram Bhosle?A Life Sketch, is also available but does not give as many details as the Marathi book. This book is a biography of the little known masseur expert Dr. Ram Bhosle?now over 85 years old and a descendant of the Chhatrapati Shivaji family?who has led an extraordinary tumultuous and eventful life. Starting with a humble and tortured childhood, he went on to get training in Europe under leading masseur institutions and authorities. He returned to India and started a roaring practice and many globally known celebrities and politicians became his clients. Involvement in the 1942 Quit India Movement led to several arrest warrants and he escaped to the secluded Himalayan heights and spent his days with several prominent yogis including Babaji. In his sojourn he saw extraordinary yogic feats and learnt several of them. Returning home after Independence he continued his practice and has attained international fame for his combination of modern theory and traditional yogic techniques. The date of this incident is not given and it is also not clear whether ?Chinmayananda? was the wellknown Swami Chinmayananda of Chinmaya Mission or someone else.
Chapter 25: In the Proximity Of Siddhas (p. 138)
That shore of the river Bhagirathi was away from civilisation and could be described as uninhabited. Apart from a few isolated huts, there was no trace of any houses or human bustle. Even these huts belonged to sadhaks immersed in deep meditations and not to sundry householders. The atmosphere was intensely serene and tranquil.
There was as such no reason for Ram to go there. He had then no inclination towards spiritualism and also was not mature enough for it. But he found a certain fascination in wandering and observing various facets of Bharat.
Eight days ago during his wanderings, he had come to this bank of the Ganga. He was fascinated by the majesty of the river, its wide expanse, the gurgling sound of its slow moving waters, deep woods and spotless banks and remained engrossed there. As it is, he had been used to the earth as his bed and the sky as his bedcover since childhood. And with his attitude of treating every place as God'sown habitat, he was not perturbed either by the solitude or by lack of essentials.
Remaining on the banks of the river he saw several sadhaks and they in turn saw him. But he did not feel like disturbing their solitude and there was no compelling reason for him to converse with them.
Ram'scuriosity now knew no bounds and he trod towards the hut cautiously and slowly opened the hut'sdoor. What he saw inside was simply stunning and awe inspiring. Shri Golwalkar Guruji was levitating in an asana eight or ten feet above the ground and an intense blue light emerged from his navel. Ram witnessed this awesome spectacle for a long time.
A couple of days thus passed and all of a sudden Ram saw two familiar faces. One was Shri Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar and the other Chinmayananda. Ram greeted them and then ignored them.
They, however, approached Ram and introduced themselves. Shri Golwalkar asked Ram, ?Bhosle, I can see a spiritual halo around you. May we know its secret??
Ram was astonished and thrilled. When someone perceives your innermost being without yourself pointing it out, it gives a special joy! And the joy multiplies when the other touches your innermost chords.
Complimenting Shri Madhavrao for his penetrating insight, Ram related to them his Himalayan experiences and his stay with maha-avatar Babaji. He then said, ?I have witnessed what cannot be believed and still less, comprehended by the common man and modern intellect. Will anyone believe that I have seen great yogis living since the days of Sri Krishna??
?The rajguru of Prithviraj Chauhan, Apariharyaji, even now meditates in the Himalayas. And Shalya'schariot in which Karna fought still exists in the Himalayas bedecked with gems worth billions of rupees, nay the earth. Will you believe that I have presented a small bit of this chariot to a greatly renowned Indian national leader??
Both listeners could not conceal their astonishment. However Shri Madhavrao?he was yet to become renowned as Shri Golwalkar Guruji?said, ?Ram, I have no doubt whatsoever about what you have now said. But please tell us something more.?
Ram continued, ?I queried that great soul regarding these extremely expensive jewels. These chariots are meant for war in which they can be considerably damaged. Then what is the point in decorating them with all these jewels? I don'tsee anything besides vainglorious ostentation in this.?
?The mahapurusha then laughed and replied: ?Since nobody will believe the existence of such historical evidences in the first place, the question of understanding the mystery behind these jewels does not arise. The answer to your question is that in the days of the Mahabharata the weapons or astras, which were employed, relied both on mantras and tantras for their efficacy. These gemstones on the chariot were meant for the tantric techniques.?
?The mantras associated with the astras were to be remembered or chanted and then they were to be transferred to the arrows used. Taking assistance of the unique rays that were reflected by these gems when sunlight fell on them, the arrows were then released resulting in tremendous damage. This was the main reason why battles in those days were not fought during nights as there was no sunlight available then.?
Shri Madhavrao and Chinmayananda were stunned with astonishment. They subsequently met Ram often and a certain closeness developed in their relationship.
It was one such night. Ram and Chinmayananda sauntering along the bank of Ganga walked a long distance. Shri Golwalkar Guruji had not accompanied them since he was to perform a special sadhana.
It was nearing midnight and Ram and Chinmayananda were returning to their hut. They came near it and Ram repeatedly rubbed his eyes with astonishment. He just could not believe what he saw.
?Oh Chinmay, what am I seeing! A marvellous blue light is emerging from your hut. Am I under some delusion? Is anything wrong with my eyesight? There is no electricity in the neighbourhood and you have nothing else except a kerosene lantern. Then what is the source of this intense blue light??
Chinmayananda laughed and replied, ?My friend, I also have the same question but I know the answer. Why don'tyou go and verify with your own eyes??
Impatiently Ram started to quickly stride towards the hut with intense curiosity but Chinmayananda cautioned him, ?Please proceed very slowly and cautiously without making any sound and don'tloudly exclaim when you see what is happening!?
Ram'scuriosity now knew no bounds and he trod towards the hut cautiously and slowly opened the hut'sdoor. What he saw inside was simply stunning and awe inspiring.
Shri Golwalkar Guruji was levitating in an asana eight or ten feet above the ground and an intense blue light emerged from his navel.
Ram witnessed this awesome spectacle for a long time.
When Ram describes this incident he adds, ?If Dr. Hedgewar had not dragged Shri Golwalkar into RSS, Shri Guruji would have been the greatest yogi of this yuga.?
