Ashes of Seshadriji immersed in the Ganga

Patent law is anti-human
Shri Udairao Patwardhan, BMS general secretary, has termed the new Patent law as anti-human. Addressing a massive gathering in Jaipur recently he said about 15,000 drug companies of the country were on the verge of closer due to the new Patent law. He said after enactment of this law the profit earned from medicines would go abroad. He said the new law would also make the seeds and medicines costly and it would be difficult for common man to purchase medicines. ?After coming into force in October this year the new Paten law will force about 15,000 of the total 26,000 drug companies of the country to shut down their shutters permanently and the cost of medicines will go up to at least 40 per cent,? he said. Before the public meeting, the BMS activists took out a rally against the economic policies of UPA government. The rally was part of the BMS nationwide awareness campaign going on all over the country.     FOC

Preparations for 300 anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib as Guru
Shri Guru Granth Saheb is going to complete 300 years after assuming the status of Guru in October 2008. A grand function is scheduled to be held in Naded Saheb, Maharashtra where Guru Govind Singh had declared the holy book next Guru. About 50 lakh people across the world are expected to participate in the event. The Maharashtra unit of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat has decided to celebrate the event on larger scale. A meeting of Sangat was recently organised in Pune to start preparations. Rashtriya Sikh Sangat national president Sardar Gurcharan Singh Gill, general secretary Shri Avinash Jaiswal and Sardar N.C. Cheema, former Lt. General were among the prominent dignitaries who participated in the meeting. According to Shri Gill, the Sikh Sangat has decided to organise at least 300 functions across the state in coming three years to apprise people of the significance of the event. He said the Sikh Sangat had very effective units in Nagpur, Pune and Naded and the units in Satara, Mumbai, Nasik, Dhule and Akola were also being activated. He said speeches of the saints from all parts of the country had been accommodated in Shri Guru Granth Saheb and three of these saints-Bhakt Namdev, Bhakt Trilochan and Bhakt Parmanand-belong to Maharashtra. He pointed out that the message of Shri Guru Granth Saheb would be spread all over the country. (FOC)

Janmashtami celebration by Saraswati Bal Mandir
Shri Sanatan Dharm Saraswati Bal Mandir, Punjabi Bagh in New Delhi organised a function to celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami. Local units of Bharat Vikas Parishad and Sanskar Bharati organised a Shri Krishan Roop Sajja competition in which various manifestations of Shri Krishna were demonstrated. The function was followed by Bansuri Sajja and Mataki Sajja competitions also. Different forms of Shri Krishna were demonstrated in the form fancy dresses.

R. Lakshmanan passes away
R. Lakshmanan, president of Vanvasi Sewa Kendram, Tamil Nadu, passed away following a cardiac arrest recently. He was 65. He is survived by his four sons, grand children and wife. He collapsed while proceeding to the bus stop at his village to attend the inaugural function of a Vanvasi hostel at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district. Born in 1940 at Thrichigadi village near, Ooty, R. Lakshmanan was a Accounts Officer in defence service staff college, Wellington. He joined the Hindustan Photo Films in 1980 and retired in 1998 as senior personal manager. He was a leader of Kotha Janjati community of Nilgiri Hills and founder of young Kotha Welfare Association. He came in contact with Vanvasi Sewa Kendram in 1999 and became state president in 2002. (FOC)
