B bandh called by Vishwa Hindu Parishad on November 22 attracted positive response from all over the country. The national capital Delhi observed almost a total bandh. All business activities, markets, educational institutions remained closed. Attendance in government offices and banks was very low. Reports reaching from different state capitals indicated that the bandh had disrupted normal life in many cities. Long route buses did not ply on roads; streets wore a deserted look or witnessed slogans by bandh supporters. In Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal normal life was paralysed. VHP activists blocked vehicular traffic and squatted on railway tracks in response to the bandh call. Shops were closed in different parts of Andhra Pradesh. Barring stray incidents of lathi-charge and clashes, the bandh passed off peacefully.
