Laghu Udyog Sangharsh Samiti (LUSS), a platform for various industrial associations of Delhi formed to fight against the closure of industrial units run in residential areas of Delhi, has warned of an agitation if the government did not take any concrete steps to save thousands of industries. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, LUSS president, Vishwa Mitra Bahal pointed out that over one lakh of the total 1,34,000 industrial units of Delhi were being run in non-confirming areas. But the Supreme Court in its recent judgment had directed the Delhi government to close down the operation of such units before September 2004. Since all units could not avail the benefit of the relocation scheme for various reasons, there would be a huge destabilisation and lakhs of people would be deprived of their employments and livelihood, he said. LUSS has urged both the state and Central governments to take immediate steps to solve the impending crisis, which would be described as most unfortunate in India'sindustrial history, if the needful is not done in right earnest.
