JAIPUR: On the birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, the residents of Ajmer have received a significant gift. At the initiative of Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, the Ajmer Development Authority (ADA) has approved the proposal to name the multipurpose stadium—currently under construction near Panchsheel Vijayaraje Nagar at a cost of Rs 12 crore—as ‘Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Stadium.’ Speaker Devnani had issued the necessary directives to the ADA regarding this matter.

A Powerful Source of Inspiration for the New Generation

Assembly Speaker Devnani stated that Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee
was a staunch champion of Indian politics, nationalism, and national unity. His entire life was dedicated to the national interest, education, cultural consciousness, and the resolve for an undivided India. Naming the stadium after Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee
serves as a fitting tribute to his unparalleled contribution to nation-building and will act as a powerful source of inspiration for the new generation.

A World-Class Multipurpose Venue for Ajmer

Devnani mentioned that this modern multipurpose stadium is being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 12 crore using funds from the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT). State-of-the-art sports infrastructure is being developed here, which will provide players with national-standard facilities and offer better opportunities for sporting talent to flourish. Devnani noted that with a seating capacity of approximately 80,000 spectators, this stadium will rank among the most significant sports and public infrastructure projects in Ajmer city. Its construction will pave the way for hosting national and state-level sports competitions and give a new identity to the Ajmer North region. He added that following the development of Patel Maidan under the Smart City project, there was a felt need for an alternative, modern venue in the city to host large-scale events. The construction of this stadium will fulfill this need and provide Ajmer with a world-class, multi-purpose venue.

A Significant Milestone in Ajmer’s Development Journey

Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani stated that the complex would facilitate the well-organized hosting of major social, cultural, and public events alongside sports competitions. This will provide city residents with an excellent public facility and significantly boost Ajmer’s capacity to host events. He noted that the state government is continuously working to promote a sports culture and provide modern sports facilities to the youth. The stadium will open doors to new opportunities for local athletes and offer a robust platform for emerging talent to showcase their potential. Devnani added that infrastructure is being rapidly expanded across all sectors—including education, healthcare, roads, drinking water, sports, and civic amenities—to ensure the timely and balanced development of Ajmer. This stadium, too, will prove to be a significant and historic milestone in the city’s development journey.
