BJP Keralam state general secretary M.T. Ramesh challenged Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan to resign if he does not trust the electoral system and asked Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether he accepts the Kerala Assembly election results, accusing the Congress leader of repeatedly questioning the credibility of the country’s electoral procedures.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government came to power through the same system. Now, he is liable to clarify his stand regarding the legality of the UDF government in Kerala.

BJP leader Ramesh said that Congress leaders themselves had stated that they could come to power in Kerala because of the effective implementation of the SIR.

The Congress leadership had clarified that the UDF could win the elections because fake voting could be prevented in CPM strongholds such as Talipparamba and Payyannur in Kannur district.

Rahul Gandhi should explain the contradiction between the arguments raised by HM Ramesh Chennithala and other leaders in favour of SIR and the current Congress protests against it.

BJP leader Ramesh further said that the first thing Rahul Gandhi has to do is ask the V.D. Satheeshan government to resign. If the Kerala Chief Minister takes part in the agitation questioning the credibility of the electoral system, he should resign first. That is how he has to prove his sincerity to the ‘cause’. He is now holding the position he secured through the election while rejecting the very same electoral system. This is nothing but blatant double standards.

M.T. Ramesh alleged that the protests Rahul Gandhi has been leading in Delhi over the past few days are aimed at demolishing the credibility of the country’s democratic institutions and questions the credibility of the electoral system. This is not good for a healthy democracy. All elections should be assessed using the same parameters. But Rahul Gandhi selectively questions the credibility of certain elections. It is ridiculous.

Ramesh accused that the Congress had been questioning the credibility of various democratic institutions in the country since 2014.

The BJP state general secretary attacked the four-month-old V.D. Satheeshan government for following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Pinarayi Vijayan.

After assuming power, CM Satheeshan is going back on several criticisms he had raised when he was the Leader of the Opposition. When Pinarayi Vijayan appointed V.S. Achuthanandan as the chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, Satheeshan opposed the move vehemently. But now, he has appointed Indian Union Muslim League leader M.K. Munir to the same position.

When the CPM-led government appointed its ‘representatives’ in Delhi, then Satheeshan asked, ‘Then what is the job of the MPs from Kerala?’ Now, Satheeshan has appointed G. Devarajan to the same position. Satheeshan must then clarify what the UDF MPs are supposed to do.

M.T. Ramesh alleged that Satheeshan was acting under pressure from the Indian Union Muslim League without even consulting the UDF convenor.

The government has become a haven of corruption and luxury within four months of its inception. Within four months, the government has proved that it is the real successor to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government led by Pinarayi Vijayan.

It is repeating the same wrong steps that it had criticised the Pinarayi government for taking. When the UDF came to power, it promised a new age. But what it has provided is dangerous politics.

BJP state general secretaries Adv. S. Suresh and Shobha Surendran were present with M.T. Ramesh during the press conference.
