LUCKNOW: Cab driver Saadat Ali was taken into custody after misbehaving with a woman military officer at the foot overbridge connecting Platforms 6 and 7 at Charbagh railway station in Lucknow. The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, September 27, with the driver being caught by the officer’s husband and later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).

The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. near the foot overbridge leading to Platforms 6 and 7. The Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division confirmed that an incident had taken place at the location and said the person involved was apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh GRP. Police action was initiated under the relevant provisions of law on the same day.

According to reports, the woman military officer had arrived at Charbagh railway station by train along with her husband, who is also an Army officer. As the couple was crossing the foot overbridge, Saadat Ali, a cab driver from Ramnagar in Barabanki, approached them.

Ali is accused of making an objectionable gesture towards the woman officer. Her husband noticed the incident, confronted the driver and caught hold of him when he attempted to move away from the spot.

The officer’s husband restrained Ali to prevent him from fleeing and informed the police. Other people present at the railway station also gathered around the driver. Some of them beat him before the police arrived at the scene.

Police personnel subsequently took Saadat Ali into custody and handed him over to the GRP for further action. The incident also drew attention after a video showing the confrontation circulated on social media.

GRP Inspector Dharmveer Singh said a case had been registered against Saadat Ali under Sections 170, 126 and 135 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and verifying the sequence of events. CCTV footage from the railway station has been examined as part of the investigation.
