A video showing a large crowd gathered on a bridge and along a road has been circulating on social media with claims that it was filmed during Rahul Gandhi’s September 19 student outreach event in Indore.
However, a fact-check shows that the video predates the event and is unrelated to it. The same footage was shared online on August 10, with the uploader identifying it as footage from Adivasi Diwas celebrations in Indore.
What does the viral video show?
Reverse searches of frames from the viral clip led to an earlier social media post carrying the same footage. The post was uploaded on August 10, and comments associated with it identified the gathering as part of World Tribal Day celebrations in Indore.
Another video from the same location was uploaded on YouTube on August 9 and also described the gathering as a Tribal Day rally.
The investigation also identified visible landmarks in the footage. Buildings belonging to coaching institutes Drishti IAS and Unacademy were found on opposite sides of Agra-Bombay Road in Indore, matching the location visible in the viral footage.
A report cited in the fact-check also said that thousands of people participated in the World Tribal Day rally in Indore on August 9.
What about Rahul Gandhi’s September 19 event?
Rahul Gandhi did hold the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore on September 19. Footage from the actual event shows a large gathering at the venue, while the Madhya Pradesh Congress also released drone footage showing people outside the venue.
However, the viral bridge-and-road video is not from that event.
