Delhi Court directs Cyber Police to file an FIR against Karishma Aziz over derogatory and anti-India X posts
NEW DELHI: The Patiala House Court in Delhi has directed the Delhi Cyber Police to register an FIR against journalist Karishma Aziz over alleged derogatory remarks against Hindu saints and posts on X that allegedly promoted anti-India sentiments.
Patiala House Court Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Mridul Gupta issued the direction after examining a complaint filed by Advocate Amita Sachdeva against Aziz. The court observed that the complaint disclosed the commission of cognisable offences requiring investigation.
The court clarified that its order was based on the allegations, material placed on record and the nature of evidence required to be collected, and that it was not expressing any opinion on the merits of the allegations at this stage.
The complaint alleged that Aziz made derogatory posts targeting Bhagwan Ram, freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She was also accused of posting content that allegedly distorted historical facts and mocked Hinduism, Hindu saints and Hindu rulers.
This is not the first time Karishma Aziz has faced legal action over her social media activities. In November last year, she was booked by Bihar Police for allegedly inciting Nepal-like Gen-Z protests in the state following the assembly elections. According to the FIR, Aziz had posted false information about a youth-led protest in Bihar that had not taken place, allegedly with the intent of creating an atmosphere similar to the violent protests witnessed in Nepal.
Aziz has also been accused of operating a network of digital accounts and repeatedly sharing hateful and misleading content. She was further accused of posting content that appeared to celebrate the death and destruction caused by a cloudburst that wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand in August last year.
