Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on August 25, launched Mission Samriddh Gaon at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi, outlining an initiative aimed at transforming villages through an integrated approach to development.

The mission has been conceived to create villages that are not only free from poverty but also offer greater employment opportunities and assured access to basic amenities.

According to the Office of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the initiative seeks to establish a comprehensive and integrated model for rural development, bringing together different aspects of village-level growth.

Focus on poverty-free and employment-rich villages

At the launch, Chouhan emphasised the importance of prosperous villages in achieving the broader national goal of a developed India.

The mission’s central objective is to develop villages where poverty is addressed alongside the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.

The initiative also places emphasis on ensuring basic amenities for rural communities, with the larger aim of improving living standards and making villages more self-reliant.

The Office of Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the initiative with the message: “Prosperous villages, strong foundation of a developed India.”

The statement underlined the government’s view that strengthening rural communities is essential to the country’s development journey.

Integrated approach to rural development

Mission Samriddh Gaon is designed around an integrated model rather than focusing on a single aspect of village development.

The objective is to bring different elements of rural development together so that villages can progress across multiple areas at the same time.

The mission seeks to build villages that have access to basic amenities while also creating opportunities for employment and economic activity.

Such an approach is aimed at addressing rural development in a comprehensive manner, with poverty reduction, employment generation and access to essential facilities forming key elements of the initiative.

The government has positioned the mission as part of its broader effort to strengthen rural India and create conditions for villages to become more prosperous and self-reliant.

Villages as the foundation of developed India

The launch of Mission Samriddh Gaon also reflects the government’s emphasis on rural India in its vision of Viksit Bharat, or a developed India.

The Office of the Rural Development Minister said the mission, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will lay a strong foundation for the resolve to build a developed India through prosperous, self-reliant and poverty-free villages.

The focus on village prosperity is based on the premise that national development must be accompanied by improvements in rural areas, where a large section of India’s population lives and works.

By seeking to combine employment opportunities with basic amenities and poverty reduction, the mission aims to create a model of village development that addresses both economic and social needs.

Building self-reliant rural communities

A key element of the initiative is the emphasis on self-reliance.

The government intends Mission Samriddh Gaon to contribute towards villages becoming economically stronger and better equipped to meet the needs of their residents.

Employment generation is central to this objective. Villages with greater livelihood and employment opportunities can provide residents with stronger economic prospects while helping reduce dependence on migration in search of work.

At the same time, ensuring basic amenities remains an important part of the mission’s vision of a prosperous village.

The initiative therefore seeks to link economic opportunity with improvements in everyday living conditions.

A broader rural development vision

With Mission Samriddh Gaon, the government has sought to put forward a broader framework for rural development, moving towards an integrated model in which poverty reduction, employment generation, basic amenities and self-reliance are pursued together.

The initiative was formally launched by Chouhan at Krishi Bhawan in Delhi and is being presented as an important step towards strengthening the rural foundation of India’s development ambitions.

The government says the ultimate objective is to create poverty-free, employment-rich and prosperous villages that can contribute to the country’s larger development journey.

As India works towards the vision of a developed nation, Mission Samriddh Gaon places villages at the centre of that effort, with the stated goal of creating rural communities that are economically stronger, better equipped with basic amenities and increasingly self-reliant.
