Mumbai Police have registered a case against three people following a clash that broke out in Parel during an Eid procession on Wednesday (August 26) night.
The Bhoiwada Police have booked Rehan Masood Sayyad, 19, Adil Khan Ahmed Khan, 19, and Miraj Mohammad Firoz Rais, 18. Police are also working to identify other people allegedly involved in the incident and have launched a manhunt for them.
According to preliminary information, members of two groups exchanged slogans during the procession, following which a verbal altercation reportedly broke out. The confrontation subsequently turned physical.
Reports of stone pelting and the use of mild police force also emerged from the area.
What led to the clash?
Police said the exact reason behind the confrontation has not yet been established.
Officials have also cautioned against drawing conclusions based on claims and posts circulating on social media. Police said several versions of the incident have emerged online, but the circumstances leading to the clash will be established only after the investigation is completed.

The incident occurred during an Eid procession, which police said was involved in a violation of traffic rules.
As tensions rose, additional police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Accused booked under multiple BNS sections
The three accused have been booked under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges include provisions relating to:
Unlawful assembly
Disobedience of orders by members of an unlawful assembly
Liability of members for offences committed by the group
Rioting
Rioting while armed with a deadly weapon
Assaulting or obstructing a public servant
Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt
Voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant
Police have also invoked Sections 137 and 133 of the Maharashtra Police Act, relating to maintaining public order and regulating conduct in public places.
The accused have additionally been booked for allegedly violating prohibitory orders issued by the Mumbai Police Commissioner regarding unlawful assembly.
Police appeal for peace
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Manoj Sharma appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from believing or circulating rumours about the incident.
Senior police officers were deployed at the location and officials said the situation was brought under control.
Police maintained that there was no need for panic and that the area remained peaceful after the clash.
Additional security arrangements have been put in place as police continue efforts to identify and trace others allegedly involved in the violence.
The investigation is underway, and police are also examining available information to determine the exact sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
