Guwahati: Love Jihadi gang raped a minor tribal girl in Chirang district of Assam. One Jihadi sustained a bullet injury in a police encounter. As per report, Pir Mohammed (25), Nasirul Sheikh (20) and Harunul Hassan (19) were arrested by police on 16th August. Nasirul Sheikh created a fake Facebook account using a Hindu name and trapped a 16-year-old tribal girl. “ The prime culprit of the crime Nasirul Sheikh, was taken to the spot of crime by a police team. He attacked a police constable and tried to flee. Police had to resort to fire to prevent the escape. Sheikh sustained a bullet injury in the police firing and he was captured subsequently”, said Chirang SSP Dhruba Jyoti Borah.

Sources said that Sheikh trapped the minor Hindu girl who is studying in class 10 through his fake social media account posing as a Hindu. They were in a love relationship for a while. On 15th August, Sheikh called the minor girl to Kajolgaon town. Later, he took her to his rented house in Chatipur area. The three Islamists gangraped the minor tribal girl in the rented house and made a video of the heinous crime. The criminals threatened the minor girl to make the video viral if she informed her family or police. But the criminals subsequently uploaded the video on social media for some money. The entire incident came to light when the video was seen by the locals.

The minor victim informed her family about the incident, and later an FIR was lodged at the Runikhata police station. The three accused are now in police custody for further investigation. The minor victim is being counselled by doctors along with medical treatment. But the heinous crime again exposes the threat faced by Hindu women, especially tribal girls, in vulnerable areas of Assam. Social media has become a soft tool to lure and trap Hindu women and girls by Love Jihadis using fake Hindu accounts. It has been seen in the past how a number of Hindu women were targeted by Love Jihadis using fake social media accounts in Assam; many women even lost their lives. Local organisations and social bodies have demanded stern action against the culprits and urged the government to frame strict laws against such heinous crimes.
