Fact Check: Prakash Raj’s ‘Voter name deleted’ claim falls flat: BLO record marked ‘shifted’ after address verification

Bengaluru: Election officials have clarified that actor Prakash Raj’s name has not been deleted from the electoral roll, but has been marked as “shifted” after a field verification found that he was no longer residing at the address registered in the electoral records.

The clarification came after Prakash Raj posted a video on social media on August 11, claiming that his name had been removed from Bengaluru’s voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Following the claim, election authorities conducted a verification and issued a detailed statement explaining the status of his electoral registration.

Jagadish G, Additional District Election Officer and Commissioner of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, said Prakash Raj’s name was registered in Part No. 1 of the Shantinagar Assembly constituency at serial number 970 as of June 16, 2026. The date was when the electoral roll was frozen for SIR-related activities.

Actor Prakash Raj alleged that his name was deleted from the electoral roll during the SIR exercise.

But the official clarification from Bengaluru Central City Corporation tells a different story.

According to the statement, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) conducted a door-to-door verification at Prakash Raj’s registered address — Flat No. 266, Garden Apartments, Vittal Mallya Road, Bengaluru-01.

During the verification, the BLO found that the actor was no longer residing at the address. The apartment owner was contacted by telephone and reportedly informed the officials that Prakash Raj had not been living at the premises for around four years. The owner also stated that another tenant was currently residing in the flat.

The BLO subsequently made inquiries with neighbours and the apartment manager to establish whether Prakash Raj continued to reside at the registered address. Based on the statements obtained during the verification, a mahazar was prepared.

Officials said the electoral authorities followed the prescribed legal procedure and the Election Commission’s rules and guidelines before marking Prakash Raj’s name as “Shifted”.

The authorities also said the apartment manager contacted them at around 5.30 pm on August 11 and confirmed that Prakash Raj had moved out of the registered premises.

Following the verification, election officials also spoke to Prakash Raj over the phone on Tuesday. According to Jagadish, the actor confirmed that he was no longer residing at the address mentioned in the electoral records. However, he reportedly informed officials that he was currently residing at another address within the Shantinagar Assembly constituency.

Officials said Prakash Raj was informed that he could apply for inclusion of his name at his current residential address by submitting Form 6 through the BLO concerned.

“If a voter is residing at an address other than the registered address, Form 6 can be submitted through the BLO of the area where the voter is currently residing. The application will be processed according to the Election Commission’s guidelines,” officials told Prakash Raj, according to the statement.

The clarification came after Prakash Raj raised concerns over the SIR exercise in a video posted on social media platform X.

In the video, the actor alleged that his name had been removed from Bengaluru’s electoral roll and questioned the process.

“Dear friends, I want to share a joke with you. After SIR, I am one among the 65 lakh voters who have lost their right to vote from Bengaluru’s voter list. Nice joke, no?” Prakash Raj said in the video.

He further said that Bengaluru had a long association with his life and career.

“I was born in this constituency. I have lived here. I studied here, went to college here and pursued theatre here. Not only that, I have also contested the Lok Sabha election from this constituency,” he said.

The actor’s video subsequently attracted attention on social media, prompting election authorities to examine the claim.

Officials, however, maintained that Prakash Raj’s name was not deleted from the voter list. Instead, the electoral record was marked “Shifted” following field verification that established that he was no longer living at the address where he was registered.
