Medak: Police have arrested Nazar, who allegedly married a young woman after posing as an orphan under the name Hemanth, following a complaint by his wife that he had concealed his real identity, name and religion before their marriage. The incident came to light in Gundreddipalli village of Toopran mandal in Medak district, on August 3, where police have also seized the accused’s mobile phone for forensic analysis.
According to the complaint, six years ago, Manne Sujatha and her husband, residents of Gundreddipalli, used to visit the Koukoor Dargah in Medchal district believing that their health problems would be cured there. It was there that a man introduced himself as Hemanth. Claiming that he had no family and was an orphan, he gradually gained the family’s confidence.
Later, he shifted to Gundreddipalli and began living there. While maintaining close relations with the family, he developed a relationship with Sujatha’s second daughter in the name of love. With the consent of the elders, the couple got married at a function hall in Toopran in May this year.
A few months later, the wife became suspicious of Hemanth’s behaviour. As he frequently travelled to Miyapur on the pretext of work, she began monitoring his movements. When she checked his mobile phone, she allegedly found videos showing him in obscene acts with several women.
An argument broke out between the couple over the issue, following which the accused fled the village a few days ago. When he returned to the village on Sunday, the victim informed the villagers, who allegedly confronted and assaulted him.
During the confrontation, the accused allegedly admitted that he was not an orphan and that he had a family. He further disclosed that his real name was Nazar, not Hemanth, and that he belonged to a different religion. According to the statements attributed to him, his mother lives in Keesara, while his younger brother resides in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
Sub-Inspector Gangaraju said the accused, Nazar, was arrested based on the complaint lodged by his wife. He added that the mobile phone seized from the accused has been taken into custody and that its data is being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Medak case adds to a series of incidents reported from different parts of the country in which women have alleged that Muslim men concealed their identity or religious background before entering into relationships or marriage. This is pattern of deception aimed at facilitating religious conversion.
‘Organiser’ has previously reported on several such incidents and legal proceedings. In an April 2026 report titled “Love Jihad: Purported campaign by Muslim men to convert Hindu women to Islam by feigning love,” the publication compiled court observations, FIRs and criminal cases in which complainants alleged deception, coercion, blackmail and attempts at religious conversion in relationships.
In another report published in May 2023, “Here’s a list of 30 cases where Muslim men posed as Hindu by using fake names, Kalawa, Tilak and Rudraksha,” the publication documented cases in which the accused were alleged to have used Hindu names, symbols or identities to gain the confidence of Hindu women before entering into relationships.
A separate investigative report, “The Fitness Facade: How grooming gangs are targeting Hindu women in gyms across Bharat,” alleged that, in several criminal cases, gym trainers and fitness instructors targeted Hindu women through relationships, blackmail and coercion, with investigators probing allegations of organised grooming and religious conversion in some instances.
The allegations in these reports are based on police complaints, criminal investigations, court proceedings and judicial observations relating to specific cases. Investigations and legal proceedings in many of these matters are at different stages, and the facts are subject to judicial determination.
Similar Cases Reported Across the Country
The Medak incident comes amid a series of cases reported from different parts of the country in recent years involving allegations that Muslim men concealed their religious identity, used fake Hindu names or symbols, entered into relationships with Hindu women on the promise of marriage, and were later accused of coercion, blackmail or attempts at religious conversion.
Police have registered several such cases in Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh involving allegations of the use of fake Hindu identities, online grooming, blackmail, sexual exploitation and pressure to undergo religious conversion. Investigations into several of these cases remain in progress.
July 2026
Davanagere, Karnataka: Gym trainer Ismail was arrested after a woman accused him of sexually exploiting her by promising marriage. The complainant alleged that the accused established a relationship over several years, sexually assaulted her and later refused to marry.
April 2026:
Bagalkote, Karnataka: 19-year-old Bhumika Tippannavar died by suicide after her family alleged that Dongrisab Nadaf, with whom she had been in a relationship for nearly two years, repeatedly harassed and pressured her to convert to Islam and marry him.
June 2026:
Sonipat, Haryana: A family alleged that Salman posed as Amit, developed a relationship with a Hindu woman, facilitated her religious conversion and later married her through Nikah in Bihar. Police initiated an investigation after the family lodged a complaint.
May 2026:
Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra: A 27-year-old Hindu woman alleged that Javed Shaikh, who introduced himself as Jay, concealed his religious identity before marrying her. She later accused him and his family of forcing her to follow Islamic practices, preventing her from worshipping Hindu deities and compelling her to consume beef. Police arrested the accused and initiated an investigation.
April 2026:
Nashik, Maharashtra- Multiple Hindu women employees of a private company lodged complaints against colleagues, including Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Meman, Asif Ansari, Tausif Attar and Shafi Sheikh, alleging sexual harassment, coercion and pressure to convert to Islam. Police registered multiple FIRs and launched an investigation.
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: Police uncovered an alleged conversion and exploitation racket involving Amreen, Afreen, Jamal, Jannat and Yasir. Investigators alleged that vulnerable Hindu women were lured with promises of employment, sexually exploited, blackmailed and pressured to convert.
Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh: Police investigated an alleged gym-based grooming network in which trainers, including Imran Khan, Zahir, Shadab, Mohammad Sheikh and Faisal, were accused of befriending Hindu women, secretly recording intimate videos, blackmailing them and allegedly pressuring them to convert to Islam.

Haridwar, Uttarakhand: A woman alleged that the man she knew as Rahul was actually Azhar Ahmad, who allegedly wore Kalawa, applied Tilak, visited temples and married her according to Hindu rituals before she discovered his real identity years later. An FIR was subsequently registered.
Delhi: Sixteen-year-old Sakshi was allegedly murdered by Mohammad Sahil, who, according to reports, used the name Sunny and wore Hindu religious symbols to conceal his identity before entering into a relationship with her.
Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Police booked Mohammad Waseem, who allegedly posed as Dinesh Rawat, maintained forged Hindu identity documents and befriended Hindu women while concealing his religious identity.
Indore, Madhya Pradesh: A woman accused Anwar, who allegedly introduced himself as Anu, of wearing Tilak and Kalawa to project himself as a Hindu before allegedly sexually exploiting her. Police registered a case and commenced an investigation.
