CJP spokesperson Saurav Das thanking the Left-backed network behind recent student protests at the CPI headquarters
New Delhi: A video of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das thanking Left-affiliated student organisations All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI) for their role in organising the recent protest has triggered a row, exposing the ideological backing behind a movement that was widely projected as a spontaneous youth-led mobilisation.
The remarks, made at the Communist Party of India (CPI) headquarters, have reignited debate over the role of organised Left groups in contemporary protest movements and their influence on student activism. Speaking directly at the CPI headquarters, Saurav Das explicitly credited veteran Left student fronts for sustaining and shaping the agitation:
“The protest… we’ve been very lucky to have organisations like the AISF, the SFI and you know other people who joined us independently without whom this protest wouldn’t have been as organized or as historic as it has been.”
This admissions confirms that the “Gen Z” branding was never more than a tactical facade. Behind the banners and social media slogans stood seasoned agitational cadre trained in ideological warfare, organizational logistics, and mass mobilisation.
The reach of this network extends beyond Indian shores. The UK wing of the SFI (SFI-UK) has consistently engaged in anti-India demonstrations in London, raising severe national security concerns about international coordination aimed at tarnishing India’s global standing.
After the video it confirms that the agitation was driven by an organised ideological network targeting the BJP-RSS ecosystem.
The developments have also been linked to the debate surrounding the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA). Therefore stricter scrutiny of foreign funding is essential to prevent external influence in domestic political activities and enhance transparency among organisations receiving overseas contributions.
