New Delhi: Delhi Police on July 23 said it had identified and blocked around 480 social media accounts allegedly operated from Pakistan for spreading fake and misleading content related to the ongoing protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.
According to the police, these accounts were attempting to exploit the situation by circulating misinformation and deceptive posts on social media. Authorities urged students and the public to rely only on verified information and avoid being influenced by unverified or misleading online content.
The development comes amid the ongoing student protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.
‘Handles were spreading fake content’
In a video message, Delhi Police said it had detected a coordinated campaign on social media to spread misinformation during the ongoing protests. The police claimed that more than 400 Pakistani social media handles had been identified for allegedly exploiting the situation by circulating fake content and rumours.

“We have noticed that some misinformation is being spread on social media. More than 400 Pakistani social media handles have been identified so far, who are taking advantage of this situation and spreading fake content and rumours. They are being blocked,” Delhi Police said.
According to Delhi Police, the identified social media accounts were the same handles that had allegedly been active during Operation Sindoor.
Police urge students not to be misled
The police alleged that the primary objective of these accounts was to incite unrest and divert students involved in the ongoing protests. “They have only one purpose, to incite people and especially to distract students,” the police said.
Urging students to remain cautious, the police appealed to them not to be influenced by fake posts, edited videos or content shared through anonymous social media accounts.
“My appeal to you is that for the safety of children, do not get incited by any fake posts, edited videos or posts made by anonymous handles,” the police spokesperson said.
Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike late on Thursday after receiving written assurances from the Centre and support from Members of Parliament across party lines regarding the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and reforms to the examination system. The fast, which began on June 28 at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, was part of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
