JAIPUR: Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) National General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra has called on the government to ensure that farmers receive compensation worth four times the market value of their agricultural land whenever it is acquired for public infrastructure projects, particularly by the Railways.

Speaking at the concluding session of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh’s Jaipur Province meeting held at the Rajasthan State Livestock Management and Training Institute on Agra Road on June 28, Mishra said that while farmers are willing to contribute to the nation’s development, they should not be forced to bear the economic burden without adequate compensation.

“Farmers are not refusing to give their land for development projects. However, since the acquisition deprives them of their livelihood, they must be compensated at four times the value of the land,” he said.

During his address, Mishra also raised concerns over food safety and public health. Referring to reports of cancer cases in regions where chemical fertilizers are reportedly not used extensively, he claimed that investigations had linked such illnesses to wheat and rice distributed through government channels. He urged authorities to thoroughly examine the issue and ensure the safety and quality of food supplied to the public.

Earlier in the session, BKS National Joint Organisation Secretary Gajendra Singh highlighted the importance of agriculture and India’s civilisational ethos. He said India’s identity is rooted in Sanatan traditions and stressed that the prosperity of farmers is essential for the welfare of society.

“Our nation is a Sanatan nation. It has neither a beginning nor an end. The prosperity of farmers is the foundation of the prosperity of the world. When principles are aligned with practice, the results are always positive,” Singh said.

The meeting was attended by several senior Bharatiya Kisan Sangh functionaries, including National Seed In-charge Krishna Murari, Rajasthan Vice President Chhogalal Saini, Treasurer Virendra Singh, Chittor Province Organisation Secretary Parmanand, Jaipur Province President Kaluram Bangda, Province Organisation Secretary Neeraj Kumar, General Secretary Sanwarmal Solet, Treasurer Shiv Shankar, Province Minister Latur Singh, Dalchand, Samar Singh, Shrichand Siddh, Cow Protection Head Brijmohan, and Province Publicity Head Dinesh Gorasiya, among others.

The BKS meeting focused on key issues concerning farmers’ welfare, fair land acquisition policies, agricultural sustainability, and strengthening the rural economy while ensuring that development projects do not compromise the livelihoods of farming communities.
