TMC's 'Pushpa of Falta' Jahangir Khan paraded in shorts with rope around waist for third time since arrest
Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan, widely known in political circles as the “Pushpa of Falta,” was paraded through parts of South 24 Parganas district on Monday under heavy police protection, days after his arrest in connection with multiple criminal cases.
Videos from the spot, which quickly spread across social media, showed Khan dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, walking barefoot with his head bowed. In several clips, he can be seen folding his hands before onlookers and pulling his ears in what appeared to be a gesture of apology. Police personnel tied a rope around his waist and escorted him through the streets while armed security forces maintained a tight cordon around him.
Large crowds gathered along the route to witness the procession despite extensive security arrangements. Personnel from the state police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Khan has been booked in several cases involving allegations of extortion, land grabbing, intimidation, violence and other offences. According to police officials, the parade was conducted as part of the ongoing investigation into these cases.
This was the second time in less than a week that Khan was publicly escorted through the area by law enforcement authorities. A similar police parade was conducted shortly after his arrest.

Jahangir Khan was arrested in a joint operation carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) and Darjeeling Police near Panitanki on the India-Nepal border. Investigators alleged that he was attempting to leave the country when security agencies intercepted and apprehended him.
Following his arrest, Khan was produced before a court in Diamond Harbour, which remanded him to five days of police custody for further questioning.
Police officials stated that he had been absconding for several weeks and was allegedly trying to evade arrest by moving through border areas of West Bengal.
The TMC leader had come under scrutiny following allegations of electoral malpractice and violence during polling in the Falta Assembly constituency on April 29, held during the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Amid complaints and reports of irregularities, the Election Commission cancelled the polling process and ordered a re-poll on May 21. Before the fresh election could take place, Khan withdrew from the contest and remained out of public view following the controversy.
The subsequent re-poll resulted in a significant setback for the Trinamool Congress in the constituency, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing victory by a margin of more than one lakh votes.
Jahangir Khan has long been a controversial political figure in South 24 Parganas. Considered an influential leader in the region and reportedly close to senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, Khan has faced repeated accusations from local residents over the years.
Residents and political opponents have alleged that he was involved in land grabbing, extortion and acts of political intimidation following the change of government in West Bengal. While these allegations have frequently surfaced in local political discourse, the recent criminal investigations have brought renewed attention to his activities.
Shortly after news of Khan’s arrest became public, angry residents allegedly attacked and vandalised his office in Falta. According to reports, furniture and windowpanes were damaged during the incident.
Authorities also recovered a large quantity of relief material from the premises, adding another dimension to the controversy surrounding the influential TMC leader.
With multiple investigations underway and police custody continuing, Jahangir Khan remains at the centre of one of the most closely watched political and criminal cases in South 24 Parganas.
