Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Bharat Innovates 2026 on June 14, Sunday during his visit to France. The national initiative aims to identify, mentor and showcase India’s most promising technology ventures from higher education institutions and centrally funded technical institutes. Bharat Innovates aims to connect selected startups with a global network of investors, industry leaders, policymakers, research institutions and technology partners.
Bharat innovates, in its statement quoted French President Emmanuel Macron as saying, “The question is no longer if India innovates, but who will innovate with India”. The attendees will hear from leaders across government, industry, academia, investment and research who are helping connect Bharat’s deep-tech ecosystem with global markets and partnerships and meet the directors and senior leaders from India’s higher education institutions who are shaping research, entrepreneurship and deep-tech innovation across the country.
Their presence brings academic leadership, institutional expertise and a research-to-market perspective to Bharat Innovates. 120 Innovators, 15 HEIs & 500+ investors from India
Technology and innovation are poised to take centre stage as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurate the landmark Bharat Innovates 2026 conclave in Nice on June14, Sunday. The three-day innovation conclave, running from June 14 to June 16, serves as a powerful platform to connect Indian innovators with global investors, industry leaders and academic institutions.
The joint launch by PM Modi and President Macron signals the growing importance of technology and innovation in the India-France relationship, which has seen deepened cooperation in recent years across sectors ranging from defence and space to digital technology and artificial intelligence. More than 120 Indian innovators, nearly 15 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and over 500 investors, including leading corporates and venture capital firms, along with global CEOs and industry leaders are participating in Bharat Innovates.
Diplomatic observers view Bharat Innovates as a critical launchpad for India to showcase its deep-tech capabilities to a global audience, attract international funding and secure vital partnerships in emerging technologies. The event will spotlight cutting-edge innovations across future-focused domains such as advanced computing, semiconductors, space technology, defence innovation, biotechnology, healthcare and climate solutions.
Detailing the broader visual and strategic impact of the initiative, Piyush Srivastava, Additional Secretary (Europe West), Ministry of External Affairs, stated: “Bharat Innovates is a landmark initiative that showcases India’s innovation journey to a global audience, our startup ecosystem, deep tech startups, our digital public infrastructure, our advances in defence space and clean energy and contributions of Indian talent to global technology”.
The Prime Minister’s presence with President Macron at this event is itself a significant symbol of the depth of bilateral relationship in the domain of technology and innovation. Especially this year, which we are also celebrating as India-France Year of Innovation”, MEA Additional Secretary added.
PM Modi said in his departure statement that he is eagerly looking forward to inaugurating ‘Bharat Innovates’ along with President Macron. “This landmark event, being held against the backdrop of the India-France Year of Innovation, will connect India’s most promising start-ups with global investment and serve as a major accelerator for innovations emerging from India’s higher education ecosystem”, he said.
Over the next few days, I will be in France and Slovakia to attend various programmes, including bilateral talks, multilateral engagements and interaction with the Indian diaspora. The focus will be on boosting economic as well as cultural linkages.
