The week spanning April 27 to May 03, 2026, witnessed a disturbing and wide-ranging series of incidents reported across multiple Indian states and parts of Bangladesh, reflecting rising social tensions, violent confrontations, and repeated allegations involving coercion, abuse, and religiously sensitive conflicts. From rural villages to urban centers, the reported cases span serious crimes against individuals, targeted violence, custodial deaths, alleged forced conversions, assaults on religious symbols, and confrontations emerging from public expressions of faith and identity.

A significant number of incidents during this period involved allegations of exploitation and coercion under the pretext of relationships, employment, or healing gatherings, with several cases also reporting accusations of religious conversion pressure. Alongside these, multiple violent assaults were reported in public and semi-public spaces, including attacks on families, women, activists, and religious figures, often escalating from local disputes or objections linked to religious practices or identity markers.

The period also saw repeated instances of vandalism and desecration of temples, alongside controversial statements and social media activity that triggered widespread public outrage.

The detailed incidents from April 27 to May 03, 2026, are given below.

April 27, 2026

1. Minor Hindu girl raped and driven to suicide by Muslim man in Bareilly

In the Meerganj police station area of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a 12‑year‑old Hindu girl was found hanging from a dupatta in her home on 27 April 2026. The death was initially treated as a case of suicide, but the post‑mortem report later revealed that the minor had been raped prior to her death, transforming the incident into a case of fatal sexual exploitation. The victim’s father filed a formal complaint on 29 April 2026 after the medical findings became known, prompting a detailed police investigation supported by statements from the girl’s mother and younger sister.

Police investigations identified Zeeshan, a 26‑year‑old Block Development Committee (BDC) member and local resident, as the accused in the case. According to the probe, he had been repeatedly sexually assaulting the minor girl over a period of time, luring and harassing her near a pond outside the village after school hours and offering her small sums of money to keep her silent. Local accounts indicate that some villagers were aware of his behaviour towards the child but did not intervene effectively. Zeeshan later confessed to the crime during interrogation, and investigators concluded that the sustained sexual abuse and harassment had pushed the girl into severe psychological distress, which ultimately led her to take her own life. Police arrested Zeeshan near a weekly market and produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody; the case is being treated as one involving rape and abetment of suicide of a minor.

The victim in this case is a single minor Hindu girl, recorded as 12 years old and belonging to the general category; her caste and full name have not been disclosed in public reports, and authorities have treated her as a child victim whose death resulted directly from sexual exploitation.

2. Hindu Man Dies in Custody in Bangladesh After Arrest in Political Violence Case

A 48-year-old Hindu man, Debashish Chowdhury, died in custody in Chittagong District, 21 days after being arrested in connection with a sabotage and political violence case. Debashish Chowdhury, who worked as an accountant at an ashram in the Kotwali area, was taken from his residence on 27 April 2026 by men in plain clothes who informed the family that a warrant had been issued against him in a case registered at Sadarghat Police Station in 2024.

Following his arrest, he was produced before a court and remanded to jail custody. Authorities later stated that he collapsed after suffering chest pain inside Chittagong Central Jail and was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After post-mortem formalities, his body was handed over to the family on 20 May 2026.

Family members and local residents alleged that there were multiple injury marks and severe bruises on his body, particularly on his back, indicating custodial torture. Relatives stated that Debashish Chowdhury was not politically active and had no links to any political organisation. They further alleged that he had been falsely implicated in the case amid a long-running property dispute involving an influential local woman.

The family described the death as a custodial killing and demanded an impartial investigation along with strict action against those responsible. The incident also triggered concern among sections of civil society and local residents in Chattogram, particularly amid reports of increasing attacks, intimidation, and arrests targeting Hindus in Bangladesh following recent political unrest and the parliamentary elections held in 2026.

3. Hindu Employees Allege Religious Discrimination at Pantaloons Showroom in Jabalpur

Hindu employees working at a Pantaloons showroom in Jabalpur alleged that they were prevented from wearing religious symbols such as tilak and kalava inside the workplace and were mocked for their religious beliefs and practices by showroom management.

One of the employees, Shubham Sen, stated that he joined work after clearing his interview on 27 April 2026. According to him, he was instructed during the interview process not to wear Hindu religious symbols while on duty. When he reported to work wearing a tilak and kalava, the showroom manager allegedly asked him to wipe off the tilak and cut the sacred thread. Shubham later resigned from his job, stating that the incident had deeply hurt his religious sentiments.

Another employee working as a security guard also alleged that he was confronted by showroom managers for wearing a tilak at work. According to the employee, when he explained that he had applied the tilak after reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, the manager allegedly mocked the devotional practice and made derogatory remarks about Hindu deities.

Following the incident, Hindu organisations staged protests outside the showroom and submitted a memorandum to police officials demanding action in the matter. Protesters warned that demonstrations would intensify if religious sentiments continued to be disrespected at the workplace.

Police confirmed that a complaint had been received and stated that the matter was under investigation. They added that legal action would be taken if any criminal offence was found during the inquiry.

Meanwhile, showroom manager Nitin denied the allegations and stated that there was no ban on religious symbols inside the showroom. He maintained that employees were only instructed to follow a uniform dress code and maintain a professional appearance while on duty.

4. Hindu Security Guards Attacked in Mira Bhayandar; Media Outlet Faces Criticism Over “Unverified” Reporting

Two Hindu security guards were seriously injured in a stabbing attack in the Mira Bhayandar area of Mumbai after an accused identified as Zaib Zubair Ansari allegedly questioned them about their religion before assaulting them.

According to statements given to police by the victims, identified as Subroto Sen and Rajkumar Mishra, the accused initially approached them asking for directions to a mosque before questioning their religious identity. Subroto Sen stated that the attacker asked whether he was Hindu and later stabbed him in the back. The second victim, Rajkumar Mishra, alleged that the accused asked him to recite the Kalma and attacked him after confirming that he was Hindu.

An FIR was registered in the case and the accused was subsequently arrested. Police documentation and victim statements detailing the sequence of events later circulated publicly.

The incident later became the subject of controversy after Asianet Marathi described social media claims surrounding the attack as “unverified” in a report discussing online comparisons between the Mira Bhayandar incident and the Pahalgam attack. The report stated that there was no official police confirmation available at the time and questioned the reliability of claims circulating online.

However, criticism emerged after it was pointed out that police communication regarding the incident and the arrest had already been issued. The report, authored by journalist Vivek Panmad, was accused by critics of downplaying the seriousness of the attack despite the existence of victim statements and official documentation connected to the case.

5. Temple Priest Assaulted After Objecting to Obscene Acts Inside Kanpur Temple Premises

A temple priest and a sevadar were assaulted by a large group of men after objecting to obscene acts allegedly being carried out inside a Hindu temple premises in Kanpur.

According to the complaint filed by Mahant Jayanarayan Das, who has been serving at the temple for nearly three decades, a man and woman from the locality had been repeatedly spending long periods behind the temple premises for several days. On the day of the incident, the sevadar checked the area and allegedly found the pair in a semi-nude condition inside the temple premises.

The sevadar objected to their conduct and asked them not to engage in such acts within the temple compound. Following the confrontation, the accused man allegedly issued threats before leaving the spot.

Later that night, the accused returned along with a group of around 35 to 40 individuals armed with sticks. The group allegedly entered the temple premises and attacked both the mahant and the sevadar. Mahant Jayanarayan Das sustained serious injuries during the assault, including a fractured finger, while the sevadar was also injured.

A complaint was lodged at the Krishna Nagar police outpost following the incident. The mahant stated that if no action was taken, he would raise the matter before senior administrative and police officials.

Chakeri Station House Officer Ajay Prakash Mishra confirmed that a case had been registered based on the complaint and stated that an investigation into the incident was underway.

6. Muslim Man Arrested in Kolhapur for Allegedly Exploiting and Blackmailing Multiple Hindu Women

Police in Kolhapur arrested 22-year-old Shahid Sameer Sanadi after allegations emerged that he had trapped multiple Hindu women in relationships, sexually exploited them, and blackmailed them using obscene videos.

The case came to light after a 20-year-old woman lodged a complaint stating that the accused had befriended her through social media and later took her to lodges in Kolhapur and Shiroli, where he allegedly raped her multiple times. The complainant further alleged that Shahid secretly recorded obscene videos and photographs of her, later using them to threaten and blackmail her. She stated that he warned her against approaching police or informing others, claiming he would make the videos public.

Police investigation and media reports indicated that at least 10 Hindu women, mostly between the ages of 18 and 22, were allegedly targeted in a similar manner. Investigators examined digital evidence and began verifying whether more women from areas including Shiroli, Hupari, and Hatkanangle had also faced similar exploitation.

The matter reportedly surfaced after one of Shahid’s acquaintances came to know about the videos and disclosed the information, following which the complainant approached police.

Following his arrest, a local court remanded the accused to four days of police custody. A video circulating on social media also showed Shahid apologising and admitting to exploiting multiple Hindu women.

Hindu organisations, including Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan and Bajrang Dal, submitted memorandums demanding a detailed investigation and strict legal action in the case. Police also appealed to any additional victims to come forward and assured that their identities would be kept confidential.

7. Hindu Women and Children Assaulted by Muslim Mob While Travelling to Temple Event in Beed

Hindu women and small children travelling to attend the Harinam Saptah at Bankat Swami temple in Beed were assaulted by a mob following a minor vehicle collision involving their rickshaw.

The incident occurred at around 8 PM on 27 April 2026 when the rickshaw carrying the devotees made slight contact with another vehicle on the road near Neknoor village. According to eyewitness accounts and statements from the victims, the occupants of the other vehicle, along with a large crowd that gathered at the spot, allegedly attacked the rickshaw driver and assaulted the women and children travelling with him.

Victims stated that the women were beaten while attempting to protect the driver, and small children were kicked, punched, slapped, and dragged during the assault. Videos of the incident later circulated on social media, showing a large crowd surrounding the rickshaw and attacking the passengers.

Members of the victim families alleged that the assault was premeditated and not a spontaneous reaction to the minor collision. Hindu organisations in the area also condemned the attack and demanded strict action against those involved.

Following the incident, local residents gathered at Neknoor police station seeking action against the accused. During the protest, stone pelting was reported outside the police station, following which police carried out a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain order.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vyankat Ram stated that the accused were being identified through CCTV footage and viral videos and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in the violence.

8. Sacred Hindu temple of Maa Kali vandalised by miscreants in Hyderabad, Pakistan

In Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan, a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, located at Fatah Chowk, was attacked and vandalised by a group of unidentified miscreants. The Kali Mata Temple, a central place of worship for the local Hindu community, suffered significant damage during the incident, with parts of the structure and religious premises defaced or broken. The assault on the temple triggered widespread anger among Hindu residents, who viewed the attack as a direct desecration of their sacred space and an assault on their religious identity.

In response to the vandalism, members of the Hindu community staged a protest demonstration outside the temple and blocked nearby roads, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators, strict punishment for those responsible and enhanced security for minority religious sites. Protesters called on authorities to ensure justice, protect Hindu places of worship from future attacks and prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Law‑enforcement personnel arrived at the scene to manage the crowd, negotiate with the demonstrators and restore traffic flow, while investigations were launched to identify and apprehend the accused. The episode intensified concerns about inter‑faith tension, the safety of Pakistan’s Hindu minority and the vulnerability of their religious heritage.

9. Muslim Man Arrested in Moradabad for Derogatory Social Media Remarks Against Hindu Dharma

Tension prevailed in the Katghar area of Moradabad after a Muslim man was arrested for allegedly posting objectionable and derogatory remarks on social media against Hinduism, the Mahabharata, and prominent Hindu leaders.

The accused, identified as Kaushar Hayat, was arrested by Katghar police from Brass Nagari on 27 April 2026. Police stated that the accused used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a video circulated on social media. The video also allegedly contained objectionable remarks about Hinduism and the Mahabharata, which police said had the potential to hurt religious sentiments and disturb public peace.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Katghar police station under FIR No. 222/2026 under sections 196(1)(a), 299 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further legal action in the matter was underway.

The incident involved one accused, identified as Kaushar Hayat. No physical injuries or direct victims were reported in the case, though the remarks triggered outrage among members of the Hindu community in the area.

10. Hindu Female Students Asked to Remove Kalavas During CUET Examination at Delhi Centre

An incident at Ganga International School in Hiran Kudna, West Delhi, sparked controversy after Hindu female students appearing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) were allegedly asked to remove their kalavas before entering the examination hall, while Muslim students wearing burqas were reportedly allowed to appear for the exam without similar restrictions.

The matter came to light after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media. In the video, a man recording the scene questioned the examination authorities over what he described as unequal treatment of students belonging to different faiths. He alleged that Hindu girls were being pressured to remove kalavas and earrings during security checks, whereas Muslim girls wearing burqas were permitted entry into the examination centre.

The video also captured a heated exchange between the man and school authorities over the implementation of security procedures. The incident triggered reactions on social media, with several users raising concerns over alleged religious discrimination and demanding uniform rules for students of all communities during examinations.

Following the controversy, Ganga International School issued a statement denying the allegations. The school stated that the claims circulating online were “fake and baseless” and asserted that no such incident had taken place on the school premises.

The exact number of affected students and the identities of the officials involved were not specified in the available information. No formal action or inquiry had been publicly confirmed at the time of reporting.

11. Hindu Woman Abducted, Held Captive and Pressured for Religious Conversion To Islam in Kanpur

A Hindu woman was allegedly abducted, held captive for several days, raped, and pressured to convert to Islam by a Muslim man in the Sajeeti police station area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The case came to light after the victim’s father lodged a complaint with the police. In his written complaint submitted on 3 May 2026, he stated that his daughter went missing on 28 April 2026 after he returned home around 8 pm. Following unsuccessful efforts to trace her, the family later discovered that the accused, identified as Irshad alias Abdullah, son of Lala Mansoori and a resident of Baripal, had allegedly confined her at his residence.

According to the complaint, the victim was forcibly taken from her home after the accused allegedly entered the house and assaulted her. She was then kept captive for four days, during which she was allegedly raped and threatened. 12. DMK Spokesperson Sparks Row With Remarks on Lord Ram and Ram Rajya

Tamil Nadu witnessed controversy after DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan made remarks mocking Lord Ram and the concept of Ram Rajya during an interaction with the media on 28 April 2026.

Elangovan stated that he did not know what Ram Rajya was because he was not present when Lord Ram was ruling. He further said that such a system did not exist in Tamil Nadu and contrasted it with the Dravidian movement’s stated objective of establishing human equality. The remarks triggered outrage among sections of the Hindu community, who viewed them as derogatory towards Hindu beliefs and traditions.

The controversy also revived attention to Elangovan’s earlier remarks made in 2023 regarding the Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya. At that time, he had described Lord Ram’s birth as a myth, termed the Ramayana a literary work rather than a sacred text, and criticised the Ram Temple consecration as a political exercise linked to the BJP.

The latest remarks led to criticism on social media and among Hindu organisations, with many accusing the DMK leader of repeatedly insulting revered Hindu figures and concepts central to the Hindu faith.

13. Ancient Bhairavnath Temple Vandalised, Idols of Hindu Deities Damaged in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia

An ancient Bhairavnath temple in Uchad village of Datia district, Madhya Pradesh, was vandalised during the night of 28 April 2026, triggering outrage among local residents. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Goraghat police station.

Unknown miscreants allegedly entered the temple premises at night and damaged multiple consecrated idols inside the shrine. Idols of Lord Bhairavnath, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Hanuman were found broken and defaced when villagers arrived at the temple the following morning.

The incident led to anger among residents, with a large number of villagers gathering at the temple premises and demanding immediate action against those responsible for the desecration of the temple and idols.

Following information about the incident, Goraghat police station in-charge Ramesh Shakya reached the spot with a police team and conducted an inspection of the temple premises. Police collected evidence from the site and nearby areas as part of the investigation.

Based on preliminary findings, police suspected the act to be premeditated. A case was registered against unidentified individuals, and efforts were initiated to identify the accused through CCTV footage and local inquiry regarding suspicious activities in the area.

14. Hindu Organisations Protest Abusive Social Media Posts Targeting Cow and Lord Nandi in Shimla

Religious sentiments were hurt in Rampur Bushahar area of Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, after a local businessman allegedly posted abusive remarks on social media targeting the cow and Lord Nandi, both revered in Hinduism.

The controversy emerged during a nationwide campaign seeking the status of “Mother of the Nation” for the cow. Members of Hindu organisations submitted a memorandum to the President through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, alleging that the businessman had used objectionable language against the cow and Lord Nandi on social media platforms.

Following the remarks, a delegation of Hindu organisations met SDM Harsh Amarendra Singh and submitted another memorandum demanding strict legal action against the accused. Members of the delegation stated that the cow holds sacred importance in Hindu tradition, while Nandi is worshipped as the vehicle of Lord Shiva, making such comments deeply offensive to Hindu sentiments.

The organisations also expressed concern that failure to act could encourage similar incidents in the future. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the local police station.

Several members, including Vinay Sharma of the Satyanarayan Temple Trust, along with Tilak Raj, Vishnu Sharma, Raghav Soni, Anoop Sharma, Sangram Singh, and Vasu Mittal, were present during the submission of the memorandum and filing of the complaint.

A complaint filed in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh exposed an alleged organised religious conversion network operating through regular prayer meetings over several years. The complaint was submitted by Arvind Kumar, a resident of Ahina Bahariya in the Mandhata area, after he discovered that several members of his own family, along with others from nearby villages, had converted to Christianity.

According to the complaint, Arvind Kumar’s mother Nirmala Devi, uncle Basant Lal, sister-in-law Sarla Devi, cousin Rajesh Kumar, and other relatives had allegedly been drawn into Christianity through repeated prayer gatherings organised at Basant Lal’s residence. Statements and affidavits of multiple individuals were recorded during the inquiry. Based on the findings, Mandhata police registered a case against 22 individuals under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Sections 3, 5(1), and 11 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021.

The matter escalated after Bharatiya Janata Party workers and local residents gathered at the Saurikh police station and submitted complaints demanding immediate legal action. Complainants alleged that the accused had persistently shared offensive content related to Hindu religious figures and had also made objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They further claimed that individuals objecting to the posts were threatened with false implication under the SC/ST Act.

As the issue gained attention, multiple written complaints along with screenshots of the social media posts were submitted to the police. The gathering outside the police station intensified, with residents demanding strict action over the alleged insults to Hindu religious sentiments.

Suraj Kumar, meanwhile, stated that the social media posts being circulated were old and claimed that certain individuals were politicising the issue. He also alleged that he had received threats following the controversy.

Station in-charge Jayanti Prasad Gangwar confirmed that a complaint had been received and stated that an investigation had been initiated. Police said further legal action would be taken on the basis of the findings.

17. Hindu Religious Symbols Insulted, Hindu Sage Disrespected During Protest Rally in Chitrakoot

Religious tensions were reported in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, after a protest demonstration allegedly escalated into the public insult of Hindu religious symbols and a Hindu religious figure. The incident took place at the Dhanush intersection area, where a group led by District Panchayat member Meera Bharti and BSP leader Rohit Patel organised a protest that drew sharp reactions from Hindu organisations.

During the demonstration, protesters burned an effigy of Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, head priest of Baba Bageshwar Dham, and garlanded it with shoes. The protest was also accompanied by the use of derogatory language and alleged insults directed at Hindu religious symbols, further intensifying the controversy.

Following the incident, activists associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad submitted a formal complaint at the Karvi Kotwali police station, demanding strict legal action against those involved. The complainants stated that the incident had hurt Hindu religious sentiments and warned that administrative inaction could lead to further protests.

19. Poor Hindus Allegedly Targeted for Religious Conversion To Christianity By Christian Missionaries in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Concerns over alleged illegal religious conversion activities surfaced in Uttarakhand’s Khateema region and adjoining border areas after workers associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, demanding immediate intervention and strict action against those involved.

The organisations alleged that Christian missionaries were active in several tribal-dominated villages, including Khetalsanda, Kham Pachauria, Ganna Centre Halwadi, Saijna, Badi Bagulia, 22 Pul, and Bhudakishni. They claimed that economically vulnerable Hindu families were being specifically targeted through inducements and sustained religious outreach activities.

According to the memorandum, inducements in the form of financial assistance were allegedly being offered to encourage conversion to Christianity. The organisations further alleged that “healing gatherings” were being organised where individuals were persuaded to believe that illnesses could be cured through supernatural means, thereby influencing them towards religious conversion.

During the submission of the memorandum, Block Minister Pradeep Thakur demanded strict legal action against those allegedly involved in illegal conversion activities and warned of intensified protests if the administration failed to act.

Khateema Tehsildar Virendra Sajwan stated that if any cases were found involving conversion of individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, their official status could be reviewed in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

20. Ancient Temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Lolab Valley Reclaimed by Kashmiri Pandits After Nearly Four Decades

Kupwara: A Hindu temple located in Chandigam village of the Lolab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been reclaimed by members of the Kashmiri Pandit community nearly 37 years after it was allegedly looted, desecrated, burnt, and demolished during the period of unrest in the Valley.

The temple was among several Hindu religious sites targeted in 1990, a period during which large sections of the Kashmiri Pandit community were displaced from the Valley amid terrorism and insecurity. Reports state that hundreds of temples were damaged or destroyed during that phase, leading to the loss of several ancestral religious and cultural sites connected to the Hindu community.

According to local accounts, the Chandigam temple was set on fire and left in ruins during the violence. The structure remained abandoned for decades following the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the region.

The reclamation of the temple by the Hindu community marked a significant moment for displaced Kashmiri Pandit families, many of whom had remained separated from their ancestral religious spaces since the early 1990s. Community members described the return as an important step towards reconnecting with their cultural and religious heritage in the region.

No recent arrests or official action related to the original destruction of the temple were reported. The perpetrators were identified in local accounts as Muslim groups involved during the period of militancy and unrest in the Valley, though exact identities and numbers were not officially confirmed.

Kanpur: A 19-year-old Hindu woman from the Sajeti area went missing from her residence on 30 April 2026, triggering a search by her family that later led to allegations of abduction and forced religious conversion involving multiple individuals.

According to the complaint filed by the woman’s father, she was allegedly taken away by Kalam Ali, a resident of Aston village under Charkhari police station limits in Mahoba district. In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Hindu residents in Kanwali and adjoining localities were approached through repeated door-to-door visits by two women identified as Sitapuri from Baniyawala and Sumitra from Kanwali, under the jurisdiction of Basant Vihar police station.

According to the information, the women engaged with households across Kanwali, Indira Nagar and nearby areas over several days, encouraging residents to adopt Christianity. During these interactions, they allegedly spoke about benefits linked to conversion, including financial assistance, education support, healthcare aid and employment opportunities.

They were also found distributing printed cards containing QR codes linked to the jw.org website, which directed users to Christian religious material and teachings. Local residents stated that the outreach appeared focused on Hindu households, particularly Hindu women, and continued in a sustained manner across multiple neighbourhoods.

It was further alleged that the outreach included attempts to create confusion about Hindu beliefs while presenting Christian teachings as superior. Residents also claimed that the women were using Hindu-style attire, including bindis and traditional clothing, while engaging with households, which they said helped them gain trust within the local community.

Local organisation members informed police after concerns were raised about repeated visits and conversion-related messaging in Hindu-dominated residential areas. Members of Veer Savarkar Sangathan reached the location following these inputs and subsequently involved police authorities.

During the interaction with officials, residents and organisation members alleged that inducements related to education, financial help and medical support were being used to encourage conversion. They also flagged the presence of an office linked to Jehovah’s Witnesses operating near Telpur Chowk under the name “Rajghar, the home of Jehovah’s Witnesses”, and submitted related photographs and details for investigation.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under provisions of the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act, 2018 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both women were taken into custody and questioned, while investigation into the wider network and scale of activity remains underway.

Police stated that statements from all parties will be recorded and further action will be taken based on findings.

23. Statement in Uttar Pradesh Assembly sparks controversy over remarks on Hindu women’s dress and Tipu Sultan

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a statement made during a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on 30 April 2026 by Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament Toofani Saroj triggered public controversy over its historical references and interpretation of Hindu social practices.

During a debate in the House, Saroj stated that “Tipu Sultan gave women the right to cover their breasts” and further suggested that there had once been a law restricting women from doing so. The remarks were made in the context of a broader discussion in the assembly and were later widely circulated on social media, drawing strong reactions.

The statement also referred to historical practices associated with women’s attire and touched upon the concept of “Mulakkaram” (breast tax), which has been interpreted by historians in different ways, including as a form of taxation rather than a literal restriction on clothing.

Following the remarks, public discussions emerged online and offline, with differing views on the historical accuracy of the claims and the portrayal of Tipu Sultan in the statement. Critics argued that the comments misrepresented historical context and linked them to broader narratives about Hindu society and traditions.

The issue gained traction due to its setting inside a legislative forum, where the remarks were perceived by some as shaping public understanding of historical events and social practices. The matter subsequently sparked debate over the interpretation of historical figures and the accuracy of claims made during official proceedings.

24. Hindu Kathavachak Receives ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ Threats After Public Remarks on Forced Conversions and Related Issues in Ujjain

In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Hindu kathavachak Ramswaroop Brahmachari, associated with Chardham Temple in Jaisinghpura, reported receiving death and beheading threats on social media after his public statements on issues including forced religious conversions, alleged targeting of Hindu women, and cow slaughter. A complaint was later filed at Mahakal Police Station following the circulation of these threats online.

According to the complaint, the kathavachak had delivered a religious address during a Ram Navami gathering held in Hyderabad, where he spoke about concerns related to coercive conversions, “love jihad” narratives, and cow slaughter, and urged people to raise awareness on these issues. The speech was recorded and later circulated on social media, after which hostile responses and threatening messages began appearing online.

The complaint further states that an Instagram account and several other users posted explicit threats against him, including calls for beheading and violent harm. Some posts also allegedly offered monetary rewards for carrying out the threatened violence. 25. Hindu Tribal Communities in Uttarakhand Allegedly Targeted by Organised Christian Conversion Network

In Uttarakhand’s Khatima region and adjoining border villages, Hindu tribal communities were reportedly subjected to sustained attempts at religious conversion through what has been described as a coordinated network of Christian missionary activity. The areas mentioned include Khetalsanda, Kham Pachauriya, Ganna Centre Halwari, Saina, Badi Baguliya, 22 Pul, and Bhudakishni, where economically weaker Hindu families were allegedly approached over a period of time.

Local Hindu organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, stated that two primary methods were being used in these villages. The first involved financial inducements offered to poor Hindu families as a means of encouraging conversion. The second involved so-called faith healing gatherings, where individuals were reportedly led to believe that illnesses could be cured through religious intervention, creating a pathway for religious influence and conversion attempts.

According to submissions made by these organisations to district authorities, the activities were concentrated in tribal-majority villages where access to healthcare and economic stability is limited, making families more vulnerable to external influence. The matter was brought to the attention of the administration through a memorandum submitted via the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, seeking action against the alleged conversion activities.

Local representatives and organisation members also raised concerns regarding the spread of such activities across multiple villages, stating that the pattern suggested a coordinated effort rather than isolated incidents. They further warned of intensified protest if administrative action was not taken against those involved.

A local revenue official noted that if any conversion involving Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe individuals is legally established, provisions relating to their status would be applicable under the law.

Authorities have taken note of the complaints, and the matter remains under administrative review.

Two Hindu brothers were violently attacked in Ulhasnagar, Thane district of Maharashtra, after being identified through tilak marks on their foreheads. One of them sustained critical stab injuries in an assault carried out with knives, sticks, rods, and a sickle.

The incident took place when the two Hindu youths from Shiv Mandir Ekta Nagar visited Netaji Chowk locality to meet a friend. During their visit, a group of 5–6 Muslim men led by Sameer Shaikh confronted them after noticing the tilak and objected to their presence in the area, referring to it as “their area.” The confrontation quickly escalated into a coordinated attack.

The victims were beaten with sticks and rods and repeatedly stabbed with sharp weapons. One brother suffered deep chest injuries and head wounds, while the other sustained injuries to the head and hand. Both were taken for urgent medical treatment, with one requiring critical care due to the severity of stab wounds.

Police registered a case after the incident and arrested one accused, while others remain absconding. Investigation and search operations are ongoing.

46. Hindu woman assaulted after coercion for religious conversion in Udaipur

A Hindu woman in Udaipur, Rajasthan, was allegedly lured with inducements, pressured to convert to Christianity, and assaulted after she refused. The incident took place in the Gayariawas area under Hiranmagri police station limits.

The victim, Kajori Guru, originally from Odisha, stated that she was approached by three women identified as Anisha Dodia, Aradhya, and Pari, who allegedly pressured her over a prolonged period to convert and offered financial benefits linked to the church. When she refused to comply, she was assaulted. A man identified as David reportedly intervened to protect her during the incident and was also assaulted.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.

A Hindu adult woman, residing in Udaipur, who alleged coercion, inducements for conversion, and physical assault after refusal.

Three Christian women, identified as Anisha Dodia, Aradhya, and Pari, were named in the complaint, along with one additional individual mentioned in connection with the incident.

The developments recorded during this week highlight a complex and deeply fragmented social landscape where crime, suspicion, and identity-based tensions repeatedly intersected. Across multiple regions, incidents reflected not only individual acts of violence and exploitation but also broader patterns of mistrust, polarisation, and recurring allegations that intensified local and regional sensitivities.

A consistent thread across these reports is the recurrence of coercion-related allegations, violent confrontations, and disputes escalating from religious identity markers or perceived acts of disrespect. These situations frequently resulted in police intervention, arrests, and ongoing investigations, underscoring the strain on local administration and law enforcement systems dealing with sensitive and fast-evolving cases.

At the same time, the reported incidents underline the urgency of maintaining legal due process while addressing community grievances in a balanced manner. Whether involving criminal acts, public order disturbances, or allegations linked to religious conversion, the events of this week collectively point to an environment where trust deficits and rapid escalation of conflict continue to pose serious challenges.

Overall, the week stands as a reminder of the need for stronger institutional vigilance, timely justice delivery, and sustained efforts toward maintaining public order and social cohesion in a climate increasingly shaped by high sensitivity and rapid information circulation.
