B.K. Suresh, BJP Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha Kasargod district committee member, was stabbed to death on May 17 in Marppinadukka within the Kumbadaje Panchayat limits in Kasargod district. The incident is said to have occurred following an altercation related to a cricket match. Badiyadukka Police have registered cases against two youths, Kiran and Akhilesh. The incident took place around 9.25 pm.
Police said that there were altercations between Suresh and the two assailants, which led to the murder. Suresh was taken to hospital, but in vain.
Sangh workers in Kasargod district reported that Suresh was an ardent Sangh Swayamsevak and a promising leader in Kumbadaje Panchayat. One of the accused is reportedly linked to CPM.
The victim was a night watchman at the Kumbadaje Cooperative Bank and was one of the prominent organisers of the local cricket match. The attack occurred when he came to work around 9.30 pm. The attackers confronted him, dragged him from the bank premises, and fatally attacked him with a sharp weapon.
Reports from Kasargod suggest that Suresh and his friends had organised the cricket matches for their community. However, the assailants demanded the inclusion of others in the match, which reportedly led to the confrontation.
The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack. Local police have intensified the search operations across the Karnataka border.
