West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, on May 18 asserted that the “time has come to deport illegal infiltrators” as he visited the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Addressing party workers and residents, Adhikari said the BJP government would fulfil its electoral promises, secure the borders and take strict action against corruption and crimes against women.
During his visit to Bhabanipur, the Chief Minister thanked BJP supporters and local residents for what he described as an overwhelming mandate in favour of the party. Surrounded by party workers and supporters, Adhikari said the BJP government would not compromise on national security and would take decisive steps against illegal infiltration.
“I’m not a man who will bow down. The BJP’s Chief Minister will fulfil the commitments made by the party. The BJP government will keep the country safe. First, they were detected in the voter list, then they were deleted from the voter list. Now the time has come to deport them,” Adhikari said while addressing supporters.

The remarks are being viewed as one of the strongest statements yet by the newly elected BJP government in West Bengal on the issue of alleged illegal infiltration and voter verification. The BJP had repeatedly raised the issue during the state election campaign, accusing the previous administration of allowing illegal infiltrators to influence electoral and demographic patterns in border districts.
The Chief Minister also said that his government would launch a legal crackdown on those accused of atrocities against women and girls in the state. Emphasising women’s safety and accountability, Adhikari stated that judicial oversight mechanisms had already been activated.
“The BJP will work to legally crack down on the atrocities committed against mothers, daughters and sisters. IPS Damayanti Sen and Member Secretary of Justice Sampati Chatterjee’s committee have been given responsibility for this. We are not going to leave anyone,” he said.
In another significant statement, Adhikari accused several politically connected individuals of amassing huge properties through corruption and said their names had already been submitted to authorities for investigation.
“I have informed the municipal affairs secretary and KMC commissioner about four names, Raju Naskar from Beleghata, who allegedly has 18 properties; Sona Pappu from Kasba, who allegedly has 24 properties; Abhishek Banerjee, who allegedly has 24 properties; and Javed Khan’s son, who allegedly owns 90 properties. These people have looted the state. In the coming days, the BJP government will legally put these corrupt people behind bars,” the Chief Minister alleged.
The statements are expected to intensify the political confrontation in West Bengal, where issues of illegal infiltration, corruption and political violence have remained central points of conflict between the BJP and opposition parties.
Adhikari’s Bhabanipur visit comes shortly after the BJP’s emphatic electoral victory in the state, which marked a major political shift in West Bengal’s power landscape.
