New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 15 paid tributes to revolutionary freedom fighter Sukhdev Thapar on his birth anniversary, recalling his courage, patriotism and sacrifice in India’s freedom struggle.

In a post on X, Amit Shah said Sukhdev symbolised indomitable courage and unwavering dedication, having devoted his entire life to securing India’s independence. He also highlighted Sukhdev’s key role, alongside Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru, in avenging the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, adding that his supreme sacrifice would continue to inspire generations.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid homage, praising Sukhdev’s bravery, sacrifice and enduring legacy of patriotism.

Born on May 15, 1907, Sukhdev Thapar was a key strategist of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and played a crucial role in the armed struggle against British rule. Along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru, he became an iconic figure of India’s independence movement.

The trio was executed by British authorities in Lahore on March 23, 1931, a moment that became a turning point in the freedom struggle. Their martyrdom is commemorated every year as Shaheed Diwas, honouring their sacrifice and inspiring generations with their legacy of courage and nationalism.
