In a push to connect India’s youth with frontier development initiatives, the Union government has launched a national-level quiz competition under the Viksit Vibrant Villages Program (VVVP) 2026. The initiative aims to encourage young citizens to actively participate in the transformation and strengthening of border villages across the country.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through MY Bharat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), announced that the online quiz will serve as the first stage of selection for a large-scale youth engagement programme scheduled to be conducted in June 2026 in strategically important border regions.

The Viksit Vibrant Village Program 2026 Quiz is open to all registered users and Indian Citizens, but only youth aged 21 to 29 years (as of 1 May 2026) are eligible to advance to the next stages of the program.

According to the Ministry, the Viksit Vibrant Villages Program 2026 is envisioned as a youth-driven national campaign focused on grassroots participation, cultural integration, environmental awareness, and community engagement in India’s frontier regions. The programme will cover border areas in Leh-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other strategically significant locations.

The online quiz began on May 10 and will continue till May 20. It is open to youth from all States and Union Territories, offering participants an opportunity to contribute to national development while gaining exposure to life and challenges in border villages.

Officials said the initiative is designed not merely as a competitive exercise, but as an educational and awareness-building platform that familiarises participants with the objectives of the Vibrant Villages Programme and the importance of resilient border communities in India’s national security and development framework.

The quiz will test participants on a range of themes connected to border region development. These include village transformation initiatives, local culture and traditions, environmental sustainability, governance and public welfare schemes, community participation, and government-led efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and opportunities in frontier regions.

The government believes that involving young citizens in such programmes can help bridge the gap between urban India and remote border communities while also fostering a deeper sense of national integration and civic responsibility.

Top-performing candidates in the quiz will move to the next stage of the selection process, which includes eligibility verification and fitness assessments. Following this, 500 MY Bharat volunteers from across the country will be selected to participate in the week-long Viksit Vibrant Villages Program in June 2026.

The selected volunteers will be deployed in identified border villages, where they will participate in a series of field-based activities and community outreach initiatives. These activities are expected to focus on cleanliness drives, environmental campaigns, awareness programmes, youth interaction sessions, and cultural exchange activities aimed at strengthening social cohesion in border regions.

In addition, volunteers will also conduct career counselling sessions, engage with local youth, and participate in experiential learning exercises that highlight grassroots governance, sustainable rural development, and the strategic importance of border communities.

Government officials said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047”, which seeks to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary year of Independence. Through the programme, the Centre aims to empower youth as active stakeholders in nation-building while simultaneously promoting awareness about the significance of India’s border populations.

The initiative also comes amid increasing policy focus on improving infrastructure, connectivity, livelihood opportunities, and social development in remote villages located along India’s international borders. Officials believe that youth participation can inject new energy into these efforts while encouraging long-term engagement with frontier communities.

Interested participants can register and take part in the quiz through the official MY Bharat portal. The Ministry has urged young people across the country to participate enthusiastically and become partners in the mission to build vibrant, self-reliant, and resilient border villages.
