The Secretariat of the BRICS Trade Union Forum was formally inaugurated by the Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Vandana Gurnani, marking a significant step towards strengthening global labour collaboration. This year, hosting the BRICS Trade Union Forum’s summit will be the responsibility of BMS.
S Mallesham, All India President, has taken over the charge of the Presidency of the BRICS-Trade Unions Forum Summit 2026, which is a major event to be held in Hyderabad from 14 to 16 July 2026. In a simple function held at BMS Central Headquarters, the BRICS-Trade Union Forum’s Secretariat has been inaugurated, at which representatives of different Trade Unions belonging to different sectors have participated
Chief Coordinator of the Summit, B Surendran, outlined the vision, structure, and functioning of the Secretariat and introduced key dignitaries, including BMS President S Mallesham; CK Saji Narayanan, Former All India President, BMS and General Secretary Surender Pandey Ji, as well as other prominent members of the organisation.
In her address, the Labour Secretary emphasised the importance of the 3Cs — Collaboration, Cohesion, and Cooperation — and highlighted BRICS as a vital platform for addressing workers’ concerns and building a strong, united labour community across member nations. The summit will be a good platform for exchanging best practices adopted by different countries to bring light to the lives of ordinary workers. She also stressed the need for effective implementation of labour codes and appreciated the trade unions’ constructive deliberations.
The Secretariat will function through four dedicated working groups:
1. Social Security
2. Skilling, Reskilling & Upskilling
3. Women & Future of Work
4. Human-Centric Technology & AI
A dynamic team has been formed to lead various verticals, including media coordination, social media, communication, international relations and thematic task forces.
