A 70-year-old man, identified as Hamiduddin, was arrested in Raipur after a video allegedly capturing him engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a cow surfaced on social media.

The video quickly went viral, prompting strong reactions from local residents and cow protection groups (gau rakshaks), who approached the police demanding strict action.

According to the complaint lodged at Amanaka police station, the accused had allegedly been involved in similar acts for several days prior to the incident coming to light.

Police register case under BNS and Animal cruelty law

Following the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Officials stated that the accused was taken into custody after preliminary verification of the video and subsequent investigation.

Police emphasised that such acts not only constitute animal cruelty but also hurt the religious sentiments of the public, warranting strict legal action.

Accused’s background under scanner

Preliminary information suggests that Hamiduddin is originally from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh and was residing in Raipur at the time of the incident.

Authorities are also examining the claim made in the complaint that similar objectionable behaviour had been taking place over the past week.

Police assure strict action

Law enforcement officials have reiterated that incidents involving cruelty to animals and actions that disturb public harmony will be dealt with firmly.

The case has triggered broader discussions on the need for vigilance, stricter enforcement of animal protection laws, and swift action in cases that cause public outrage.

Further investigation is underway.
