Anantapur: An Islamist man, identified as Maulana Khaja Hussain, has been accused of attempting to sexually assault a six-year-old girl in Anantapur district, sparking outrage and concern among local residents. The accused is reportedly affiliated with the YSR Congress Party. Police have arrested him and initiated an investigation into the incident.

According to reports, the alleged attempt took place in the Rudrampeta area. The situation unfolded rapidly when locals became aware of the incident. Residents intervened and managed to apprehend the accused on the spot, preventing any further harm. The nature of the allegations, particularly involving a minor, triggered strong emotions within the community.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that an angry mob gathered soon after the accused was caught. The crowd reportedly assaulted him, shaved his head and beard, and stripped him. He was then paraded through the streets while soot was smeared on his face. The public display of anger reflected the intensity of the reaction to the alleged crime but also raised serious concerns about mob justice and the breakdown of the legal process.

Following the incident, family members of the victim, along with local residents, transported the accused to the Fourth Town Police Station, where he was formally handed over to the police. Authorities confirmed that he is currently in custody. A case has been registered, and investigators have begun collecting evidence and recording statements from those involved.

However, the incident has also led to tensions in the area. Police officials have stated that the case is being handled with due seriousness and that all necessary legal procedures are being followed. They have urged the public to maintain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, emphasising that justice must be delivered through proper legal channels.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about crimes against children and the strong public reactions they provoke. It also underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order while addressing community anger. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to provide further updates, and appropriate legal action will be pursued based on the findings.
