Love-Jihad in Madhya Pradesh: Three minor Hindu girls converted & repeatedly raped; Victims return home wearing burqas

Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, too, cases involving ‘Jihad’ and Islamic conversions show no signs of abating; once again, a sensational case has surfaced involving grave allegations of rape, religious conversion, and alleged “Love Jihad” against minor Hindu girls. This crime perpetrated against three minor girls, including a 17-year-old teenager from the Ashoknagar district, raises questions not merely about law and order, but more fundamentally about our social fabric: why, after all, does this “Jihadi” mindset persist unchecked?

In fact, the entire sequence of events unfolded in the state capital, Bhopal; however, it only came to light when the victim returned home to Piprai (Ashoknagar) wearing a burqa and recounted her harrowing ordeal to her family members. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, on November 5, 2025, Altamash Khan, a resident of Bhopal—lured the 17-year-old teenager away from the Piprai railway station. Initially, the interaction appeared to be a harmless friendship or romantic liaison, but it gradually evolved into a calculated conspiracy. As time passed, the victim realized that everything she had endured was part of a premeditated plot. The mother alleges that the accused gained her teenage daughter’s trust, brought her under his influence, and subsequently took her to Bhopal, where he established complete control over her.

Forced Conversion and Marriage

Upon reaching Bhopal, the teenager was subjected to a forced religious conversion. Subsequently, she was compelled to undergo a ‘Nikah’ (Islamic marriage ceremony), an act described as being entirely against her will. According to the victim, she was subjected to constant intimidation and threats and was placed under such immense psychological pressure that she was rendered incapable of offering any resistance. Following the ‘Nikah’, she was repeatedly raped at various locations, including Prabhat Chauraha and other hideouts.

Exploitation of Not One, But Three Girls

The investigation has revealed the shocking fact that this case is not limited to just the single victim initially identified. The main accused, Altamash Khan, along with two accomplices Aahat Sheikh and Arhan Ali Khan (residents of Jinsi, Bhopal) employed a similar strategy to ensnare two other minor girls (aged 14 and 15) in their trap. These girls, too, were subjected to religious conversion, and incidents of sexual assault were perpetrated against them. Thus, this case has emerged as an instance of an organized Islamic Jihadi ring targeting innocent young girls.

Brainwashing and Psychological Coercion

All these victims managed to reach Ashoknagar secretly, evading detection. They informed the police that the accused had psychologically “brainwashed” them. Attempts were made to isolate them from their families and society. They were coerced into wearing burqas and were kept in seclusion, strictly forbidden from interacting with anyone. Gradually, they were maneuvered into a situation where they were unable to break free from the control of the accused.

It has come to light that all these girls hail from extremely impoverished backgrounds. The accused Jihadis exploited this poverty to their advantage. For the purpose of conversion, these Islamic Jihadis specifically targeted daughters of the Valmiki community, a group so impoverished that, fearing the financial burden of police proceedings and other associated costs, their families were initially unable to come forward to report the matter. The fear of these expenses had, until now, prevented them from filing a First Information Report (FIR). It was only after the case came to light and Hindu organizations mobilized to accompany the victims’ families to the police station, that the aforementioned incident could finally be formally registered as an FIR.

Police Action and Investigation

Acting on the victims’ complaints, the police have registered a case against the accused under various serious sections of the law, including charges of rape, provisions of the POCSO Act, the Anti-Conversion Law, and other relevant statutes. Additionally, a case has also been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police have initiated raids across Bhopal and its surrounding areas in an effort to apprehend the accused. Regarding the case, Ashoknagar SDOP Vivek Sharma stated that efforts to arrest the accused are ongoing. Based on the investigation, strict action will be taken against the culprits.

It is noteworthy that the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (Dharm Swatantrya Adhiniyam) is in force in the state; its objective is to prevent religious conversions carried out through coercion, inducement, or deception. Under this law, religious conversion without prior permission is deemed a criminal offense and carries provisions for strict punishment. However, this incident has once again demonstrated that “Islamic Love Jihadis” harbor no fear of this legislation. In the majority of such incidents, young women are ensnared through romantic relationships, either resulting in their conversion or involving attempts to convert them. While the administration has indeed taken action in such cases, this trend shows no signs of abating despite these efforts.
