LUCKNOW: In a firm and calibrated response to emerging labour unrest across key industrial regions of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed strict enforcement of labour laws. He said the state government will make “no compromise” when it comes to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of workers. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held after recent worker protests and rising dissatisfaction in industrial areas. The Chief Minister reviewed the situation seriously and gave clear, time-bound instructions to solve workers’ problems and maintain industrial peace.
The government’s focus is on solving the issue. The Chief Minister Yogi asked all industrial authorities to connect directly with industry groups, management, and workers within 24 hours so that their problems can be heard quickly and resolved through discussion instead of conflict. Under CM Yogi’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh is prioritizing a proactive approach, where disputes are resolved at an early stage before escalating into protests or disruptions. The Chief Minister stressed that effective communication between employers and workers is essential for sustaining industrial harmony, particularly at a time when Uttar Pradesh is trying to position itself as a major manufacturing and investment destination.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to labour welfare, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said all workers must get fair wages on time as per the law. He also directed that overtime must be paid properly, sending a clear message against any wage violations.
Beyond wages, he also laid significant emphasis on workplace conditions. He directed industries to ensure the availability of essential facilities such as safe working environments, clean drinking water, sanitation, rest areas, and access to healthcare services. The directives also include safeguards for vulnerable sections of the workforce. The Chief Minister called for strict adherence to regulated working hours, better safety for women workers, and wider access to social security schemes so workers can benefit from government welfare support.
A key part of the plan is to improve systems where workers can report their problems easily and get quick solutions without fear. Yogi Adityanath asked departments to set up strong grievance systems and ensure proper monitoring by labour authorities. To make this work, the Labour Department will work closely with district officials and stay in regular touch with all industries (from big factories to small businesses), to check if rules are followed and solve issues on time.
Importantly, the Chief Minister Yogi also issued a cautionary note regarding attempts to exploit labour issues for disruptive purposes. He said only genuine workers should take part in talks and cautioned against outsiders posing as worker representatives to spread unrest.
From a security context, UP CM Yogi also flagged concerns that certain elements might attempt to revive extremist tendencies under the guise of labour protests. Referring to Naxalism, he said such forces could try to take advantage of worker unrest, and asked officials to stay alert and strengthen intelligence to prevent any such activities. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take strict action against individuals or groups found inciting unrest or disrupting public order.
Special focus has been placed on major industrial hubs across the state. District administrations in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Firozabad, Moradabad, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. They have been directed to remain on high alert and adopt a proactive stance in handling labour-related issues.
Key industrial authorities, including Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority, Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, have also been tasked with closely monitoring developments and ensuring compliance with labour regulations across their jurisdictions.
The high-level meeting was attended by several senior members of the state government, including Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi, MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, and Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, along with top bureaucrats and officials from relevant departments. By combining strict law enforcement with dialogue and worker welfare, CM Yogi Adityanath is planning to ensure that both workers and industries grow together.
