Rangareddy: On April 15, Rallagudem Ramakrishna Reddy, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader and social activist, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Rangareddy district, within the limits of the Medipally police station. Authorities have registered a suspicious death case and are currently investigating the incident. Known for consistently raising public issues, his sudden demise has sparked concern among many.

Ramakrishna Reddy had recently exposed an alleged Rs 150-crore corruption scandal linked to the Congress-led administration, which had already drawn public attention. His death has further intensified apprehensions surrounding the case. Police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

GHMC probe reveals large-scale irregularities, officials suspended

In a related development, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation suspended ten officials, including a deputy commissioner, following an internal probe into serious irregularities. The investigation revealed major discrepancies in engineering and sanitation works, raising concerns over the misuse of public funds. Payments were reportedly sanctioned without proper verification, while several projects were either incomplete or duplicated.

Missing records, fund diversion point to deeper governance lapses

The irregularities date back to the period before Badangpet Municipality was merged with GHMC in December last year. Investigators noted the absence of crucial records and documents related to the projects, pointing to possible attempts to cover up misconduct. A detailed examination of files, bills, and measurement books exposed multiple procedural violations.

Further findings revealed that funds were diverted without approval from the municipal council or the designated special officer. Reports also highlighted arbitrary sanctioning of works, including instances where already completed projects were reintroduced for fresh approvals, indicating systemic lapses in governance and oversight.
