Kerala’s ruling Left Front is in full denial mode after senior CPI(M) leaders — Education Minister V. Sivankutty, Rajya Sabha MP A.A. Rahim, and state secretary M.V. Govindan — landed in serious trouble for publicly facilitating and felicitating the marriage of a 16-year-old girl to Muslim adult Farman Khan.
The girl, who became a national sensation after videos of her at the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj went viral. What was projected as a shining example of “the real Kerala story” — complete with claims that “Kerala is heaven for interfaith marriages” and that “Love Jihad is a myth” — has now collapsed.
Apart from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) stepped in after finding that Kumbh viral girl, from the Pardhi tribal community, was a minor (around 16 years and 2 months old) at the time of the wedding.
Madhya Pradesh Police have since registered a POCSO case against Farman Khan, along with other charges including abduction. The heat on the CPI(M) leadership has grown so intense that the party has gone completely silent on its earlier aggressive publicity about “the real Kerala story” and its repeated dismissal of Love Jihad concerns. The silence from the CPI(M) high command speaks louder than their earlier slogans ever did.
Party insiders report growing internal unease among some workers over the child marriage episode and the attempt to build a false narrative to counter Love Jihad allegations, which remain a live issue in Kerala. There are also whispers that the marriage was part of a larger understanding between radical Muslim outfits — including SDPI, remnants of the banned PFI, Jamaat-e-Islami, and PDP — and the CPI(M)-led Left front. This theory gained traction because of the perfectly timed and coordinated appearance of top CPI(M) leaders at the wedding held at Arumanoor Sri Nainar Deva Temple near Poovar in Thiruvananthapuram.
The leaders arrived with carefully scripted lines emphasising “No Love Jihad here,” even as Minister Sivankutty — who is contesting the Nemom seat against BJP state president Rajeev Chandrashekhar — had met SDPI leaders and sought support from SDPI circles. The PDP had already publicly extended its backing to the CPI(M) in Kerala.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has alleged that the entire episode, including the use of a fake or manipulated birth certificate, was a calculated move by Islamist radicals to blunt the impact of the film The Kerala Story. They reportedly chose the Kumbh viral girl because her viral fame from the globally watched Maha Kumbh — a massive Hindu event that drew international attention — made her the perfect symbol.
Why a 16-Year-Old Maha Kumbh Viral Girl Became a Target
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj stood as one of the most high-profile Hindu events in modern history, drawing unprecedented global and Indian attention that made it an irresistible target for those seeking to manufacture a counter-narrative. A massive 118-member diplomatic delegation from 77 countries visited on February 1, 2025, including ambassadors Robert Maxian (Slovakia), Mariano Caucino (Argentina), Stella Nkomo (Zimbabwe), Diana Mickeviciene (Lithuania), Keiichi Ono (Japan), and others, while UNESCO Director Tim Curtis made a special visit from February 17–19, taking a holy dip and highlighting the event’s cultural significance; separately, a 21-member delegation from 10 countries (including South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, and the UAE) arrived on January 15.
On the Indian side, BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh welcomed the diplomats, and business giants Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani personally participated, amplifying the Kumbh’s image as a symbol of India’s spiritual and economic resurgence. It was precisely this global spotlight — turning the Kumbh into a worldwide showcase of Hindu unity and tradition — that allegedly prompted radical elements and their political backers to zero in on 16 year old young Pardhi tribal girl who went viral while selling Rudraksha beads at the mela.
Global fame, Hindu Girl, Rudraksha and Global Hindu Event Maha Kumbh
Her sudden fame from the very event that had captivated international leaders made her the ideal “viral Hindu girl”. Islamist radicals reportedly targeted Kumbh viral girl to exploit her global fame. By engineering a marriage with Farman Khan and securing the public blessing of CPI(M) elite, they aimed to hijack the international limelight she earned as the “Viral Girl” of the 2025 Maha Kumbh.
While she was once a symbol of Hindu tradition—selling Rudraksha beads to global leaders and ambassadors—she was reduced to a political pawn by a Left-Islamist nexus. These leaders arrogantly used her to “debunk” Love Jihad, only for the NCST and POCSO investigations to reveal they were actually presiding over the illegal marriage of a 16-year-old tribal minor.
The complete with scripted felicitation by top CPI(M) leaders, so the marriage could be packaged as the “real Kerala story” to drown out Love Jihad concerns and the impact of films like The Kerala Story.
What began as a grand political photo-op for the Left has now turned into a major embarrassment, with serious legal questions hanging over the leaders who chose to celebrate what the NCST and police now describe as the marriage of a minor.
BJP Leader Shone George Slams CPI(M) Leaders Over Maha Kumbh Girl Episode
“The spectacle they’ve staged isn’t about a wedding; it’s a PR stunt designed for the cameras. By parading this before the press, they are sending a chilling message about the current state of India. Let’s be clear: this isn’t an attempt to foster ‘love.’ It is a calculated insult to the sanctity of the Maha Kumbh,” BJP leader Shone George said to Organiser.
He added- “That marriage in Thiruvananthapuram was a targeted strike. They took a girl who gained global fame at the Kumbh Mela—someone whose actual age remains highly suspicious—and married her off to a Muslim man just to manufacture a narrative. What kind of message does this send to Kerala and the rest of the nation?”
According to Shon, CPM leaders are insulting the very fabric of our country by using this girl as a prop for their propaganda against the RSS and BJP. The Pala leader added that CPIM aren’t interested in the sanctity of marriage or the well-being of the individuals involved. “This is a pure, agenda-driven attack—a scripted propaganda play masquerading as a ‘Real Kerala Story,’ and that girl is the victim of their political games,” Shone said.
