Hassan: A shocking case of violent assault on a couple in Arsikere has triggered massive public outrage, with citizens demanding strict action against the accused and raising serious concerns over deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The incident, which reportedly took place near the APMC area under Arsikere police limits, has also taken a political turn.

According to reports, the victims had travelled to Arsikere to take part in the annual rathotsava at the historic Sri Jenukallu Siddeshwaraswamy Temple. After participating in the temple festivities and offering prayers, the couple was returning on their two-wheeler when they were allegedly confronted by the accused, identified as Sufiyan Samivulla.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the accused was riding his bike at high speed and allegedly brushed against the couple’s vehicle. When the couple questioned his reckless driving, a verbal altercation ensued. What initially appeared to be a minor disagreement quickly escalated into a violent attack.

It is alleged that Samivulla stopped the couple, forcefully pulled the man off the bike and began assaulting him in full public view. The situation turned more alarming when, despite the victim’s wife pleading for mercy with folded hands, the accused reportedly continued the attack. The woman’s desperate attempts to stop the assault were ignored, adding to the gravity of the incident.

Not stopping there, the accused allegedly called his associates to the spot. Within minutes, a group of men arrived and joined in the assault, further intensifying the violence. The victim was beaten repeatedly, sustaining injuries and bleeding profusely. The brutality of the attack over such a trivial issue has left locals shocked and angered.

The entire incident was captured on mobile phones by bystanders and the videos have since gone viral on social media platforms. The disturbing visuals, showing the helpless victim being beaten while his wife pleads for help, have intensified public anger and drawn widespread condemnation.

Adding a political dimension to the case, the accused is reportedly linked to the circle of K. M. Shivalinge Gowda, which has led to allegations that such connections may embolden individuals to act with impunity. Locals have expressed concerns that political influence could hinder swift justice.

Following the incident, hundreds of residents gathered outside the Arsikere police station, staging protests and demanding immediate arrest of the accused and his associates. Protesters raised slogans and warned of intensified agitation if action is delayed. The protest reflects growing frustration among citizens over repeated instances of violence and perceived inaction by authorities.

Police officials have confirmed that a case has been registered and that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all those involved. However, the delay in making arrests has further fueled anger among the public, with many questioning the efficiency of the investigation.

Community leaders have called for calm but have also urged authorities to act decisively and ensure justice is delivered without bias. They stressed that incidents like these can disturb communal harmony and must be handled with utmost seriousness. The case has once again brought focus on the issue of public safety and accountability. Citizens are demanding stronger policing, quicker legal action and strict punishment for offenders to deter such acts in the future.

As the investigation progresses, the spotlight remains firmly on the authorities to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen to be done. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how minor disputes can spiral into serious violence, underscoring the urgent need for effective law enforcement and social responsibility.
